The core is made of hard plastic, then covered with a "velvet cote" overlay, which gives the surface a smooth matte finish with a small amount of drag. It's rigid, with absolutely no give whatsoever, which might make it uncomfortable for some users. One interesting thing to note is that if the surface of this particular material is scratched, it can actually be rubbed out by running a soft cloth or even one's finger over it. Not that it should ever intentionally mauled in an circumstance, but it's nice to know. No smell or taste was noted. Shoppers can choose from classic black or a more feminine, deeper hue of pink.
As for the size, this is a PETITE toy, measuring only 6 inches total in length, 1-inch in diameter, and with a circumference of 3-1/4 inches at the thickest part where the ridge is the most prominent. Technically, one could insert it anywhere from 3-4 inches deep and still have a hold on the handle. A silver ring separates the main shaft from the base. The power button is located on the end of the rounded handle/battery cap.
The "wave" motif is visible in the pronounced ridge just below the curved tip, which adds a bit of extra texture to the toy; however, it's more of an aesthetic feature rather than one that is necessarily noted during use, especially once the vibrations kick in. The curve is similar to a slightly bent finger, at not too sharp of angle, but tipped just enough to hit "this spot" or "that one" with a bit more precision.
A single, AA battery can easily be inserted by twisting off the battery cap, which serves as the handle. Ensure that it is securely fastened before using in water! To activate the toy and cycle through the functions, just press the power button. A back-lit ring of light surrounding the power button illuminates and flashes in sync with the patterns. There are 10 functions total, and scrolling through them is as easy as a quick press of the power button. To turn off the power, just hold the button down for a good 3 seconds. When the toy is turned back on, it skips to whatever the next function is, NOT to the one it was turned off at (should that be one you really enjoyed), so it will be necessary to cycle back through all of them if you wish to return to that point.
The first time the Wavy is used, the intensity starts backwards from HIGH, to MEDIUM, then LOW. The following 7 functions are a mix of pulsations and escalations in a variety of patterns, all of which mix up the intensities. The sound is on the buzzier side, not exactly quiet, but under the covers and behind a closed door, it shouldn't be heard at all.
Both water-based and silicone lubes can be used. Clean-up is a breeze, as it is waterproof; just some warm water and anti-bacterial soap will do the job quite well. It comes in a clear, rectangular plastic package which is small enough to use for storage if you are the type who likes to keep your toys well-organized in their original packages. Either way, the toy itself doesn't take up much room no matter where it's stored. Just remember to remove the batteries, especially if it won't be used for a long time.
I'm typically not a fan of these small vibes, as I don't find them pleasurable or filling enough for penetration; however, this one is a nice one to use for clitoral stimulation, as it's not only strong enough, but also sits well in the hand.
