Calypso, She Promised Me Eternal Life If I Would Stay With Her. I Agreed.
I would say that the Calypso is definitely worth the investment. Though the nubbed texture may look intimidating, it is quite pleasant and adds variety to the massager. The vibrations aren't earth shaking but they are more than enough to get the job done.
This is a great discreet massager if you are looking for something larger that wont raise too many eyebrows. It is also a solidly constructed toy, so you can expect to have it around for a while.
The most helpful critical review
The Calypso, by California Exotics was not all that I thought it would be. It is easy to hold and it is easy to use, with a click of one button that turns it on/off and goes through the patterns. The head is made of nubbed silicone and is a bit too wide for its purpose of clitoral stimulation. Along with the weird noises it made, I don't think I would use this product again
Battery case, gets noisy when held at certain angles.
This is a nubbly textured clitoral massager, although I believe it's possible to insert this toy, I would not so so because the texture would make it necessary to use a ridiculous amount of lube and it's shape would probably not make insertion very comfortable. The vibrations are of middling strength and somewhere between rumbly and buzzy.
I would recommend this for women who enjoy clitoral texture, and medium strength vibrations. It also has a variety of vibration functions which I will discuss later in the review. I would not recommend this for a first vibrator for a few reasons which I'll discuss later as well.
Material / Texture:
This toy has a body made of molded PU coated plastic, and features a nubbled silicone head. The head is highly textured with a myriad of little "nubs" that make the toy look a little bit like a hair brush, which provide gentle stimulation. The nubs are made out of very soft silicone. It's not porous, scentless, and tasteless, however you cannot sterilize it properly because of the plastic areas of the toy. I would recommend cleaning with anti-bacterial soap and water, or toy cleaner.
This toy is interestingly shaped, almost like a hairbrush, with a bulbous handle and then the textured head mirroring the shape of the handle. On the handle there is a single button, which turns the toy on and cycles through the vibration modes, to turn it off you must hold down the button (which is a little fiddly if you need to turn it off quickly) The shape of this toy is ingenious, it's very comfortable to hold, and makes for easy play with no wrist pain at the end (and seriously, who enjoys post masturbation wrist cramps). My only objection to this toy is the battery case which is incredibly hard to get on and off, and yet is oddly prone to popping off in the middle of play.
Functions / Performance / Controls:
The controls are simple and easy to use, a single button cycles through various vibration modes. The performance is fairly good, though I've noticed an odd tendency for the vibration to "change" when the toy is held at certain angles, not getting more powerful or less powerful, but at certain angles the vibe is significantly louder and "buzzier" and at others it's quieter and "rumblier". It's not waterproof, and features a variety of vibration functions, including roller coster, pulsation, and a sort of "dot dot dash' vibration pattern.
Escalating / Pulsating / Vibrating
Care and Maintenance:
Due to the mixed material I'd go with warm water and anti-bacterial soap on this toy. As well it's only compatible with water based lube (it's silicone) and should probably be stored in a baggie as it's a bit of a lint magnet. It's also a little troublesome to clean because of all the texture.
This is a middle of the road sort of a vibe, it's not "knock your socks off" fantastic, nor is it "Throw it at the wall" terrible, it's... average, the texture is nice, it's a nice way to add a little variety to a toy box, but it's nothing too special.
