The transcend is made out of silicone, which is a 10 on the Eden material safety scale. It’s smooth and non-porous, hypo-allergenic, latex and phthalates free. It really is a great material for toys and leaves you very little to worry about. The one thing you will want to be careful of is other silicone products. You will want to avoid silicone lubes unless you do a small spot check first to make sure the lube will not harm your toy. Also, you may want to store it separately from other silicone toys unless you are sure they are all 100% silicone. Storing toys together that aren’t 100% silicone may result in melted toys. Storing your toys in a separate bag or storage container will also help cut down on lint and other debris the toys may collect.
The transcend is comfortable for me to hold in hand, but could possibly be a little too large to comfortably hold if you have small hands. Most people shouldn’t have a problem with this, but if you do just have someone play with you (it’s more fun that way anyways). I would say it’s about 1 1/2 to 2 times the size of a typical baseball or softball bat handle, to give you an idea of the size in hand.
This toy does have some weight to it, since it is using 4 AA batteries. You do want to pay attention to the markings when replacing the batteries. The cap twists on and off, but there are markings that you have to line up on the toy to seal it properly. The battery cap can be put on without lining up the marks (like I did the first time), but it may result in the toy not sealing properly, and the cap does not come back off as easily when it is put on wrong. I really had to fight to get the cap back off when I discovered that I didn’t line up the marks, but I did learn my lesson.
The transcend has a flexible neck so it is not too rigid, but it still manages to apply enough pressure where you want it. For this reason, it will still work fine for light muscle massages, but will bend too much to apply deep pressure to muscles. You might get enough pressure if you use only the tip of the head straight down into the desired spot, but that could get uncomfortable before too long.
This massager features 10 different functions of vibration, pulsation, and escalation. The patterns vary and you can turn the strength of the vibrations up or down using one of the 5 speed settings depending on your desires. The only downfall to the vibrations is that there is no constant vibration setting. Every function is some variation of vibrations, but never a constant vibration. That isn’t really a deal-breaker for us, but my wife would rather have a constant vibration than all the different patterns and variations.
The bottom of the toy, where the controls are, does have an LED ring that lights up when the toy is in use, but it doesn’t really light up the controls that much unless you are in a dark room and you’re holding the toy at the right angle to see the controls. Nice thought, but doesn’t really meet the desired effect.
The toy has a single power button. Press it once to turn the toy on. A second press turns the toy off. The toy does turn on to the same function as when the toy was last turned off, but if you’re cycling through the functions and go past the one you wanted you will have to cycle through them again. There’s no way to go backwards.
The vibrating end of the transcend has a silicone cover that can be removed for cleaning. Because it’s silicone, you can clean it with toy cleaner, soap and water, dishwasher, or boiling water. The silicone cover has small grooves around it so you will want to make sure you clean them out good and definitely clean it thoroughly before sharing with other people.
With the silicone cover off, you can see a seam that runs horizontally around the head of the toy. The seam does collect dirt so you may want to clean it out occasionally, especially if you plan on using the toy without the silicone cover.
The silicone does not seem to collect much stray dirt if any in my experience. Because the toy is almost 100% waterproof, feel free to run it under water quick if you notice dirt. You won’t cause any damage to this toy.
The transcend flexing massager has a pretty attractive package in my opinion. It’s definitely not discreet as you can see the toy through the front and it doesn’t hide what it is used for. It doesn’t come right out and say “sex toy”, but it won’t be hard to figure out at all. The package is attractive though, colored in pinks and whites and highlighting the products features.
The transcend flexing massager was a hit for my wife and I. It’s great for external use and can be incorporated into body massages. The vibrations are strong enough for us to get where we want to go. I do wish it were totally waterproof, as it seems like the perfect companion toy for a long, hot, candle-lit, relaxing bath. Then again I could just be expecting a little too much. Overall, this is a well made and packaged toy that the Mrs. and I will find plenty of use for.
