Collette is made from 100% Silicone. It ranks a 10 on the Material Safety Scale. Silicone is hypo-allergenic, latex free and phthalates free. It is also non-porous.
This is a very high quality silicone product. It is actually very pretty. The color is a light purple with a silver ring where the battery cap meets the vibrator body. The skin to this vibrator is completely smooth. There is no added texture. This would be completely boring vibe if they had not added the curvy design. I prefer at least a little texture for extra stimulation, but if you like a smooth vibrator then this would be perfect for you. There is no taste but there is a very light odor. It is not a pleasant smell at all. You will have to get pretty close to smell it though. I cleaned mine as soon as I got it out of the box and that got rid of the smell.
Unfortunately, Collette has more drag than I care for. We tried to insert without lube to no avail. It took several drops of lubricant just for vaginal insertion. I do not normally mind having to apply lube, but it was like it would absorb within seconds. For an average, it would take approximately 27 seconds to absorb and disappear. This might change though once it gets more use.
This actually has a very nice curvy design. It starts with a slim tip that blossoms out to dip back in. It has three curves. The first and last curves are the broader ones with the one in the middle a little smaller. My measurements aren’t far off from the product page but not exact either. Here are my dimensions of Collette:
Length- 5 1/2”
Diameter of 1st Curve- 1 3/4”
Diameter of 2nd Curve- 1 1/4”
Diameter of 3rd Curve- 1 1/2”
Insertable Length- 4 3/4”
Length of Battery Cap- 3/4”
Collette lacked the girth that I have come to love. The length wasn’t too bad but it left me wanting more. I like to feel full and engulfed. Sadly, this didn’t do either for me. Quite honestly, if it had not been for the strong vibrations, I would hardly notice that it was inserted. For someone that prefers a thicker toy, this might not be for you. However if you require less size, this might work wonders. I would compare this to a super sized tampon. Ok, maybe it isn’t that small but its close! The plus side to the small size, it is easy to store and to travel with. I think Collette would also be a great toy for someone that is new to penetration. It's far from overwhelming and it looks very friendly.
The power button is on the bottom of the battery cap. This is also your vibration settings. Press it once to bring the toy to life. The power button will then light up. Once it is on, you will press it again to change the setting. You will find vibrations speeds: high, medium and low. The high vibration setting is very intense. It was by far my favorite. The medium setting was okay. I would compare this setting to an average vibe. Finally, the low setting is unspeakable. For me, it was barely existent. There are also seven others that shuffle between escalating and pulsating. There is a large variety of settings. While you might not like them all, there would definitely be at least one setting for you. I like the placement of the button. It is easy to control and change while using this on yourself. Also with this button being on the bottom, it is unlikely that you will change the setting during use. To turn the power off, you just hold the button down for 3 seconds. I tend to fumble around with dials, so this one button is perfect for me. It requires one AA battery that is not included.
Collette is also water proof, which is always a plus. It held up very well under water. I would warn you to make sure that you ensure the cap is on straight before using this in water. The cap is very stubborn and will not go on properly all the time.
Lets talk about the settings for a minute. With the exception of the regular low setting, all of these settings are strong enough to make the palm of your hand numb while holding or using it. They are also strong enough that you can feel it deep inside. While pressed on my thigh, I could feel these vibrations deep down near my bone. All of the settings feel rumbly (including the low setting)and smooth. Vibration-wise, I prefer Collette over my Ashton's Sweet Dreams. Collette is more powerful and has more variety than Ashton. Each setting has a different noise level. I have listed the settings along with their Vroom and Bee levels:
#1- High Constant Vibration (Vroom:5/Bee:3)
#2- Medium Constant Vibration (Vroom:4/Bee:2)
#3- Low Constant Vibration (Vroom:1/Bee:1)
#4- Fast Escalation (Vroom:5/Bee:3)
#5- Low Pulsating (Vroom:2/Bee:1)
#6- Medium Pulsating (Vroom:3/Bee:3)
#7- High Pulsating (Vroom:5/Bee:3)
#8- Vroom, Vroom, Vroom (Pulsating but harder, reminds me of pounding) (Vroom:4/Bee:3)
#9- Slow Steady Pulsation (Vroom:4/Bee:2)
#10- Slow Steady Pulsation that lasts longer (Vroom:4/Bee:3)
Words cannot do these vibrations justice. They really are great!
According to the product page, this should be cleaned with soap and water. I had a brain fart when I opened this toy. I boiled it for about two minutes and I should not have. It has a motor and takes batteries. Mine was not damaged, thank goodness, but be careful not to make the same mistake that I did. Soap/water or sanitizing toy wipes only.
With this safe material, you do not have to use a condom if you chose not to do so. However, you will need to sanitize this toy completely between uses. You do not want to risk causing infection or worse.
The box will not work as storage. You will need to find alternate storage options. I have mine in a Ziploc bag then placed in my toy box.
Silicone toys are only compatible with water based lubricants.
Collette comes in a box with Dr. Laura Berman on the front and side. On the other side of the box is an overview of Collette. It also has the same run down on the back of the box. It is not discreet at all. Inside, the vibrator come in a sealed plastic bag. Instructions were not included but it is pretty self explanatory.
This was a fun toy to try out. The vibrations were strong enough and had several different settings to keep things interesting. This vibrator could be for someone that is exploring themselves, to find their likes and dislikes, or some one that has been in the game for a long time. The size is a disappointment and there is no girth to speak of. The curves are nice though.
I would recommend this to anyone that is starting to explore their sexuality or even someone that likes the curvy feel inside. It doesn't have a large size or any texture, so if that is what you prefer this toy isn't for you. It certainly doesn't have the size or texture that I need or prefer. If your preferences are less about size but more into the curves and/or strong vibrations, this would be perfect for you.
All in all, the pros outweighed the cons. The vibrations from this toy really are fantastic. I loved the high vibrations while this was inserted inside of me but I also loved the buzzy vibration while laid on my clit. My husband loved all of the escalating settings while pressed on his anus. Collette was fun for foreplay but lacked size for satisfaction. For this toy to be perfect for me, it would have to be a little longer and definitely would have to be thicker.
