The Bet on Black is made of body-safe silicone and has a plastic red base where the control dial is. It is a bit rubbery to the touch, but not sticky or tacky. There is only a very slight plastic smell to it, if it brought up to the nose, but there was no distinct smell right out of the box. As far as taste goes, there doesn't seem to be any taste at all. The whole thing is rather smooth, but it does have a wide twist to it.
The twist in the main part of this toy doesn't add a whole lot of extra stimulation, but it may do more for more sensitive users. At the widest point, I measured 1 and 3/4 inches, but the official diameter is 1 5/8 inches. Other than this girth, it's a good toy for a user of any experience level. While it doesn't exactly look like a "my first black penis" dildo, the Bet on Black is pretty obviously a sex toy, and not the easiest to disguise as something different. If traveling with this toy, remember to remove the batteries, as there is no off-locking feature for the vibrator. Rubbing or sliding against something could turn it on.
The plastic red base twists off to allow the two required AA batteries to be inserted, and you can see a thick black rubber border that keeps water out of the battery area. I'm not sure how the vibrations work under the silicone exterior, but they vibrate strongly throughout the toy. With some vibes you can tell that there is a vibrating bullet in the toy, and it mostly vibrates in that one area, but not with the Bet on Black. The toy is surprisingly quiet. At the very highest level, it sounds like a cell phone vibrating on a table, but the many levels from weakest to the top are all quiet enough to use in a house with thin walls.
Having such a kick ass toy that's also body safe is a double win. Silicone itself can be sterilized, but as this is a vibrator, I would recommend against trying that. To clean it, I usually just wash it with soap and warm water. The cool box it comes in would work for storage, but I keep it in a soft cloth pouch.
One of the coolest things I like about this toy is the box it comes in. While not the most discreet (due to it having Evolved Novelties and instructions and such on the front and sides of the box) the plastic case snaps shut from the top and bottom and it awesome for keeping other sex stuff in. The box is a good hard plastic with a lid, and worth keeping. Personally, I store the Bet on Black in a black cloth sack, but I keep the box to hold plugs, lube, condoms, or other sex stuff. The cool packaging for the Bet on Black would make it a nice gift.
