Product summary and comments by Carrie Ann

With scents that are sophisticated and complex, these candles work well for both massage or to simply scent a room. Ember candles burn for up to 72 hours, melt into a warm, easy to pour pool of wax that spreads well and allows for long, lingering, sensual massaging and caressing. Excellent, as well, to use in the bath! Burn for the scent while you soak, then use the warm oil to soften your skin.

Best use:

Jimmyjane Ember candles are excellent for regular candle burning, to enjoy the ambiance and the amazing scent, as well as being used as a massage tool. The special waxes and oils that make up the candle melt quickly into a pool of warm oil, that can be dripped and drizzled anywhere on the body for a rub down that allows the hands to glide and caress with non greasy, heaven scented ease.

This is an excellent couples tool but can just as easily be used by singles. I've done both and, while a couples massage is great fun and sensual as all get out with this candle, I also like to use it like any other oil or lotion. In particular, it's wonderful to take along with you into the bath; just set it on the edge of the tub or on the counter and enjoy the scent as you bathe, then blow it out and use the pooled oil as an after bath body moisturizer that leaves you soft and dewy and smelling incredible.

  • Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

    Soy wax
    Carrie Ann's opinion
Ember candles are created with soy waxes and natural oils so the candle itself is soft, feeling almost like a balm inside its container. Upon lighting, it almost immediately begins to melt into a puddle of warm oil along the top of the candle. It takes about twenty minutes to have enough to do a decent back massage, a bit longer if you want to do the whole body.

The melted wax itself pours from the container, which has a small lip/pour spout in one corner, with ease. It's simple to dribble, drizzle, puddle or splash it onto your partners skin in any way you please. It can also be poured into your hand or a massage stone, then applied to the skin, but it cools quickly and doing it that way you lose a bit of the pleasant warmth that comes from pouring directly onto skin.

It is an oil so it tends to run a bit, following the dips and curves of the body you've applied it to. A fast hand will keep it from getting too far.

It's a heavy oil due to the soy waxes and shea butter that help make it a candle in the first place but it's not really greasy. It's oily and feels a bit thick on your skin at first but with consistent rubbing it eventually sinks in well. It lasts a long while, letting you rub and caress for as long as you wish without ever having to reapply, and yet, at the same time, you can fall asleep after your massage and wake up feeling soft and moisturized, not greasy.
  • Taste / Aroma

    Absinthe + sugar water
    Carrie Ann's opinion
Oh my. The scent of this candle is amazing. I've never actually had absinthe so I can't speak for whether it smells *like* absinthe or not -- though my partner says it does. I can say that it smells wonderful; light and slightly tart, slightly deep and warm, slightly sweet. The aroma is complex and layered and will probably be liked by those who prefer fresh scents more than by those who like sugary, fruity or musky scents.

Unfortunately, because it's a special edition, the actual ingredients for this one are not listed in the pamphlet that comes with it but the Jimmyjane site describes the fragrance as a combo of fennel, fig, lemon and wormwood. Fennel, to me, usually smells very anise/black licorice like but I don't notice this over much with this candle.

Those with scent issues should use caution when ordering, however. These are highly, highly scented and can seem a bit perfumey to those with sensitive noses!

These candles and the oils they produce are not meant to be licked off this skin. They taste quite horrible if you get a mouthful, though a few kisses on oiled up skin aren't going to kill you.
  • Performance

    Carrie Ann's opinion
I found that letting the candle burn for about an hour gave us plenty of oil to do a mutual full body rubdown. The oils stays liquid and pooled in the holder for a nice, long time after blowing it out; at least an hour. The oil that is drizzled upon skin stays slick enough to continue rubbing, kneading and caressing for about the same amount of time. I'm exceptionally impressed with how long lasting this oil is.

Because it's a thick, heavy oil some may feel the need to wash it off after use. I didn't. I left it on, took a nap and woke up feeling exquisitely soft and supple but not at all greasy. It did not stain the sheets I was lying on, either!

Use after bath also leaves you feeling soft for an incredibly long time if you choose to use it that way.

The scent lingers in the air for hours and on the skin for nearly half a day if you don't wash it off.

The candle itself burns for up to 72 hours and I can vouch for the fact that it really does burn slowly, steadily and evenly. The container holds 12 ounces of wax and with two full body rub downs, two after bath uses and simply burning it for around 10 hours I've yet to use even a third of that.
  • Packaging

    12 fl.oz.
    2 lb
    Carrie Ann's opinion
The Ember candles come in a signature Jimmyjane box; white with silver text and a band around it to match the scent or color of your product -- in this case, pale green.

Inside the outer box is a black inner box that is padded with black foam. The porcelain holder is snug inside this inner box with another piece of foam sitting between the lid and the holder.

The holder is rectangular, tall, with a pour spout on one corner. Most of these come with white porcelain holders, the Absinthe and Sugar Water comes in a special matte black one. A porcelain lid to keep your candle dust free rests on top.

Tucked in with the candle is a short pamphlet with instructions/suggestions for use and an ingredients list for all the Ember candles other than the Absinthe and Sugar Water special edition one.
