Blindfold

Not So Easy On The Eyes.

Unfortunately, despite its sturdiness, this item is not going to be getting very much use from me. It was painful to wear even for a couple of seconds, and made my eyes hurt for a long while after.

Use

My husband and me do a lot of sensory deprivation, and we have one blindfold which works well, but is on its way out. Most blindfolds seem to not fit the nose very well and leave a gap which lets in light as well as allows you to "peek" underneath. For our next blindfold, we wanted to try something which would really block out light and give no options to "cheat" by trying to look under or around. We were also looking for something which would be soft enough to be comfortable for long periods of wear. Sadly, this just wasn't it.

Design / Craftsmanship / Material / Size / Fit

This blindfold is put together well, and looks like it will last a long time. Unfortunately, it is VERY uncomfortable to wear, as it puts quite a bit of pressure on the eyes. More on that later.

The material itself is a soft and supple leather. It has a leathery smell, and a metal non-locking buckle. The blindfold is basically a long leather strap with two padded circles which can slide easily on the strap to give you room to adjust for a perfect fit. The strap is 28" long, and can be used on up to a 26.5" head, the shortest it will cinch down is 20". The padded circles are 2.5" in diameter, which should be large enough to cover most people's eyes with no problem.

The shape of the eye circles allows for the blindfold to be excellent at blocking out light. If the blindfold had no padding on it (or the padding was made from satin or velvet or something Non leather), it would be very comfortable since it doesn't go over the nose, like most blindfolds do. The padding sounded like an awesome idea, but wound up being quite uncomfortable for any length of time.

Performance

This is a very gorgeous blindfold, but it is unfortunately too uncomfortable to use for ANY amount of time. The first time I decided to try this on, I was wearing contact lenses. I figured I'd just be wearing it for a couple of seconds, so the contacts wouldn't matter (they are not usually a problem for me). I didn't even get the buckle fastened before the blindfold dislodged my lenses. Not only that, but in the short amount of time I wore the blindfold, I found that my eyes hurt for a little bit afterwards.

I decided to try again another day, and took my contact lenses out BEFORE using this time to see if it would be any more comfortable. Unfortunately, I had no such luck. :( I did manage to get the blindfold to buckle, but it was VERY uncomfortable, and even after removing the blindfold immediately, I found that my eyes hurt for a much longer while afterwards than the first time I used it.

The leather circles which go over your eyes are definitely the culprit. They are much stiffer leather than I thought they would be, and the padding puts a LOT of pressure on your eyes. My husband tried this blindfold on himself to see if it was something which was specific to me, but it hurt him just as badly. Unfortunately, this blindfold is an excellent idea which I feel was just executed poorly.

Packaging

This blindfold comes with minimal packaging. Just a plastic bag with a small tag on it.

Personal comments

I tried this blindfold several times and really wanted to like it! It was just way too uncomfortable to wear, and hurt my eyes in a bad way to wear it. :(
Follow-up commentary
Unfortunately, this blindfold is still totally unwearable. It's still much too stiff and puts way too much pressure on the eyes. I really recommend looking elsewhere.
