What is a blindfold?
I am sure most of you are familiar with what a blindfold is, but just in case you are not, we will go over it. A blindfold is really any item that is placed over a person’s eyes that limits their ability to see. If you have a true blindfold, the wearer will be unable to see anything at all. It would be identical to being in a room with zero light.

What to look for in a blindfold?
So there are some decisions you need to think about when buying a blindfold. The first is how much light do you want to let in. Typically most blindfolds will let some light in at the bottom or the top of the eyes. The style of blindfold that looks like a sleep mask typically does this. However it does do a pretty good job overall of preventing light from getting to the eyes. If you look online though, you can find blindfolds that will do a better job. These blindfolds typically have an adjustable strap on them (not just an elastic band) that lets you pull it closely to the person’s head. Oftentimes the blindfold is also larger. It may have a nose hole and go farther down and higher up to prevent light from getting in. Then you need to consider the feel of the blindfold. You can get them in a variety of materials, such as leather, latex, nylon, silk, etc. Each one is going to have a bit of a different feel to it. Then you need to consider the inside of the blindfold. You can have blindfolds that have the same material as the outside, but you can get ones with different materials, such as faux fur. This again will alter the experience of the person wearing the blindfold. And then you can take into consideration aesthetics such as color, patterns, and look of the blindfold.

Other blindfolds
So although you can buy a blindfold online, you can also use everyday objects as blindfolds. I personally have found the best light blocking one is a scarf. I have a larger scarf from Europe that works great. I just fold it over twice and it runs from my forehead to around my nose. This really blocks all the light from entering once the lights are dimmed down a bit. People have also used bandanas, rope (you prevent the wearer from opening their eyes), panties or boxers, or even just a blanket draped over the head. Really any cloth item will work, but I find the best item, if you are not going to buy a blindfold, is a scarf.

How do you use a blindfold?
So I a blindfold goes on a person’s head, easy right? But what becomes harder is what do you do after you have placed it on their head. Well first off we need to look at what happens when somebody has a blindfold on. Your body is an amazing thing; it compensates when something is removed. So people who are blind tend to have better hearing than the rest of us, because they rely on it. Well the same thing happens when you put on a blindfold. Your other senses become heightened to compensate. So you have a stronger sense of touch, taste, smell, and hearing. And this is what you do with a blindfold. You play off those heightened feelings.

taste: With a heightened sense of taste, it is great to bring some food into the bedroom. I have blindfolded my partner and then slowly fed her strawberries while also touching and caressing her and she loved it. Food does taste really good when you are concentrating on how it tastes and not how it looks. Fruit in general is best here. I think bringing in much else is just a bit cumbersome. Not sure if a steak would be the best idea. But strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, apple, and oranges, are all good picks here.

touch: Honestly you can do anything you normally do and it will just feel better. Part of this is the apprehension the person will feel. They never know where you will touch, lick, or caress next, so their whole body is just high strung in anticipation. Give him a handjob, finger her, perform oral, give your partner an erotic massage, or have sex. I have been blindfolded while having sex and it is amazing. Hop on top of your blindfolded partner and just have sex. It feels amazing. You start to focus on the feeling and it just heightens the sensation. I have even had people say to blindfold each other and have sex. You just explore, touch, and feel and it's great.

smell: Food is great here because it smells better, but you can also use scents. Light a candle, pull out a scented oil, or throw on some cologne or perfume and your partner will notice it more. This works great when you have lots of pauses of anticipation. Their body will tingle with anticipation and they will love the scent of the room as well.

hearing: Here I like to tease my partner a bunch. I like to rustle around more than I normally do. I like to rummage in our toy drawer for extra long. I like to fake her out with motions like I am going to touch her. And again that feeling of anticipation is just great. If you are into BDSM, this is extra awesome. Crack that whip, flog the air, pinch those clamps, and also keep them guessing where that next shock of pain is going to be on their body.

So as you can see, using a blindfold revolves around concentrating on the other senses. And in a lot of cases you do not need to do anything different than you normally do.
