Detroit, Michigan. Home, at least once upon a time, to such personages as Sonny Bono, Madonna, Bruce Campbell, Alice Cooper, and Marshall Mathers. And the 24th Annual Erotic Poetry and Music Festival, too!

What is it? It's said to be an “eclectic celebration of the erotic arts,” and is one of the oldest festivals in Detroit. It features “provocative poetry, dirty spoken word, erotic art, music and dance performances” from well-known performers in the city.

Among them Satori Circus, who describes himself as a Buster Keaton vaudevillian drag queen burlesque clownish miming poetic comedian, and is in his fifth year at the event. He says, “It started for a reason, two and a half decades ago, because there was nothing like it. Erotica was an underground thing. In Detroit, there are a lot of individuals who are basically walking art, so I think (the festival) is a good thing.”

Like all “good things,” the festival gives some of its proceeds to a good cause. It's called Paws with a Cause and it's an organization that provides leader dogs for those with disabilities.

So if you're in the area, over 21 and so inclined, head on down to Corktown Tavern at 1716 Michigan Ave. in Detroit at 9 p.m on Saturday (tomorrow, Feb. 26). Bring at least $8 for the cover charge.
