Seeing Red in the Bedroom

by FreedominBondage

The idea of having sex during my period always freaked me out. After some research, I decided to give it a shot.

The Benefits.

It can alleviate cramps. We all know that cramps are the worst! When I get cramps, I don't even want to get out of bed during my period! Unfortunately, we cannot just stay in bed for a week until the pain goes away. So, what do we do? We choke down the period medications and suffer through our day. However, having sex during your period can actually help get rid of your cramps. Having an orgasm counteracts these chemicals and provides short term relief from menstrual pain.

It can speed up your period. During our period, our uterus is contracting to help push the blood and tissue out of our bodies. Having an orgasm causes even stronger (and much more pleasurable) contractions that accomplish the same thing. The downside is that you might experience a small rush of blood when you orgasm. That mostly depends on how heavy your period is and at what point during your period you have sex. Still, isn't it worth it to have your period shortened by a day or two?

It releases endorphins. When you orgasm, your brain releases endorphins. These can help improve your mood, which is something that both men and women can be thankful for during the menstrual cycle. They can also help you sleep easier and relieve pain in the body, including cramps, backaches, and headaches.

The Experiment.

After looking into the sexual benefits, and some serious consideration, we decided to give it a try. I was surprised to find that I didn't hate it. It was a bit painful at first, but I got over that quickly enough. It wasn't as messy as I thought it would, then again was lighter than usual. My cramps and my backache pretty much went away for the next couple of hours, too. It was great! I do have to admit that it was a little embarrassing at first. I mean, I'm trying to be as sexy and possible while I'm bleeding from the vagina? That's not exactly my definition of sexy. My boyfriend, however, didn't mind. Here's what he had to say about the experience.

“Wrapping my head around going inside her while she was bleeding was, to say the least, the most unusual sexual thing I’ve done. I’m a Lifeguard, so when I see blood, I have this need to FIX it. And I can’t do that in this case. Everything felt looser, definitely could tell that her body was helping her lube up. I had to take everything much more gently than, horny as hell, me wanted to, but it worked out. Other than that, everything felt normal.”

Overall, I'd call this experiment a success. I enjoyed the sex itself, as did my boyfriend, and I really enjoyed reaping the benefits. This isn't something I'd want to do all the time because it is messy, but I wouldn't say no to doing it again.

The Equipment.

If you're going to engage in sex during your period, here's what I recommend:

1) Lay down a soft, dark colored towel, that you don't mind getting blood on. You probably don't want to get blood on your sheets, so a towel comes in handy! Plus, it helps with post-sex clean up.

2) Use a condom! Contrary to popular belief, you can get pregnant during your period. You still need to use protection. The reason I recommend a condom is because it helps keep the blood off of him, which can be a huge turn off. We used dark colored condom to help mask the color of the blood.

3) Get ready to hop in the shower. Light or heavy flow, it's going to be messy. The best way to clean yourself off is to go straight into the shower. Besides, who doesn't love showering together?

In the end, I'd say give it a shot. Who knows? You might actually enjoy it!
