How do Americans describe themselves on Internet dating site profiles? the artist R. Luke DuBois aims to answer in his series of graphics, “A More Perfect Union.”

FastCoDesign.com features DuBois this week in an “Infographic of the Day.” They note that the kinkiest women are in West Virginia and the kinkiest men are in the Southwest. The Village Voice is all over DuBois work, as you might expect. Because New Yorkers just seem to have a different dating vocabulary than the rest of the country. Popular words in profiles? Depending on where you are in the Big Apple:

Stockbroker (midtown)
Hipsters (Williamsburg)
Brunch (Lower East Side)

Etc.

We’ll do some more investigating and zooming in and out of DuBois’ maps … maybe we can figure out what people are doing with their dating profiles out here in the ‘burbs, too. Words we see a lot of, here: Beaches, sunsets, drinks, coffee, BDSM … you know. The usual.
