What is self bondage?

The example that I will use involves the risk of cutting off your own circulation. If you have bound your hands above your head, it's harder to pump blood to that area. So, if your escape mechanism relies on you being able to use your hands, you might run into very big problems if your hands lose circulation and become less dexterous.

What types of self bondage are there?
There are two main types of self bondage; there's sensual, and there's strict.

Sensual self bondage is basically mental bondage. In sensual self bondage situations, you might use restraints on yourself without any lock, or you might make it easy to untie yourself. You might also use rope with loose knots, so that you can slip out of it. This type of self bondage is the safer type, but there are still risks involved.

Strict self bondage is where an escape is not easily achievable. This is the more dangerous type of self bondage, as it is harder to predict exactly what will happen. However, this type of self bondage is more satisfying to some people as it feels more restrictive and real.

So, you can see that there are advantages and disadvantages to both types of self bondage.

How can you practice self bondage?
Self bondage should always involve having a way to get out of the restrains, as you need to be able to free yourself and continue on with your day. So, as I mentioned above, sensual bondage is the easiest option, as you will be able to easily free yourself with this type. When you decide to try strict bondage, things become more complex. It also becomes difficult when you have to decide how much time you want to spend in the restraints, how much you want your release system to cost, and how easy you want to be able to set it up.

One common method of self bondage involves the use of ice. You basically take a key to a lock and freeze it in ice. You could then put on the retrains, and slip on the locks that prevent you from escaping; then, all you'd have to do is wait until the ice melts. The advantage to this is that it is relatively easy to do, but it does have its drawbacks. For instance, the melting of the ice can be erratic, and it is difficult to determine how much time it will take for the ice to melt.

You can use combination locks, as well. For this, you would get a lock that you do not know the combination to, so that you would have to scroll through all the numbers to find the right combination. A typical three digit lock (like a bicycle lock that goes from 000 to 999)) will take a normal person 15 minutes to figure out (one combo per second). A lock with four numbers (like a bike lock that goes from 0000 to 9999) would take a normal person around two hours to solve.

You can extend this time by having it dark, as well. If you start the bondage at night when you cannot see, you will need to wait until morning before you start guessing at the locks.

There are complex electronic systems you can buy, too, but I will not discuss them. If you want something like that, you should search online.

You should always have safety mechanisms in place when doing self bondage. You should keep a key accessible in the room. You could also tell a close friend what you are doing, and ask them to phone you in X hours (for example, 2). Tell them that they should come and rescue you if you don't pick up the phone.
