by Airen Wolf

The holiday season is upon us once again and we at Eden Lit are feeling very festive. We are dropping Eden Lit Lessons and just about everything we normally do and we're gonna party. We're gonna play games and write happy, hot or maybe even healing stories. Join us for an earlier meeting on Tuesday December 4, 2012 at 3 pm on our forum for a writing party!

Weird Sex Facts For December

In the animal kingdom casual dating can be extremely hazardous! A recent study of wolf spiders (Schizocosa uetzi) showed that the female of the species will eat males that try to mate with her if they do not resemble males that she has been around previously. So, if you look like her Uncle Bob or her Daddy you will probably score, but if you look like that guy at the bar in his leisure suit- you are on the menu!

Scientists have begun to infer from the findings that there is some link to how "higher life forms" choose potential mates. The female spider can choose to mate with the male, run away from the male or eat the male...so many choices so little time! It would seem that the choice to run away from the male is not a "palatable" option in most cases.

Obscure Vocabulary for December

In the spirit of doing something different rather than defining an obscure word I will define a few obscure words and write a short seasonal story for your entertainment.

Obscure Words Can Be Fun!

'Tis the Season to be jolly and all that but it's also a time that can leave people grasping for "correct" behavior. Not to be yet another battologist or to bloviate but I think there might be a few things you should remember as you "Deck The Halls".
Please try not to be an eccedentesiast or act furciferous or Santa, the jollux, pyknic, quidnunc might add you to his naughty list!
In order to gain as little weight as possible try to knabble at your food. It's ok to be a sybarite but looking tired and bloated won't make you feel very sybaritic! Yes, with that last sentence I am definitely being a rare Philosophunculist by using a new word two different ways.

Now you see what obscure vocabulary can do for your writing! Try impressing your friends and relatives with your new knowledge. Who knows maybe you can avoid a kiss from Aunt Gertrude or a painful pinch on the cheek.

Battologist – Someone who repeats the same thing needlessly or excessively

Bloviate – To speak pompously or in an overbearing way

Eccedentesiast – One who fakes a smile

Furciferous – acting like a brat – mischievous

Jollux – A rotund person – fat

Knabble – to take small bites or to nibble

Philosophunculist – One who pretends to know more than they do to impress others

Pyknic – a person that is stocky with a round body, thick trunk and a small frame (in other words – short & fat)
