Just saying, but if I wax, I get a far worse rash than anything that I've ever gotten from shaving. Mostly because I wind up bleeding and then swollen for two or three days. Waxing isn't a possibility for all of us. I've tried laser hair removal as well, but my follicles aren't pigmented enough. Creams left me with chemical burns. Unless I've got a guy who's going to spring for me to try the no no (which, quite likely, would probably burn my skin as well), he's going to put up with my shaving and be happy with it, ha. I hate shave bumps too, but I don't have another option for hair removal.
I don't like having any hair downstairs that could possibly be messy. Usually, I prefer to be completely clean shaven, though occasionally the mood will strike me and I'll go for a landing strip because it's something that both I and my partner laugh about. As for what I like on other women, it depends on their pigmentation. Anyone with dark skin, black hair or who is blonde downstairs, I almost always prefer to be hairless. Fair red heads, tanned brunettes or the black irish look (extremely fair with dark hair) tend to intrigue me enough that I'd like to see a little bit of hair down there - a small landing strip or a treasure trail.
As for men, I prefer well-maintained. Whether that means trimming or shaving, that's up to him, but the only thing worse than a forest in the pants is a beard.
That being said, I agree with you that there should be more variety. I don't expect everyone to like the things that I like - nor should they - and people should be able to find exactly what they want when it comes to sexual preferences if nothing else in life.
