Can you get pregnant having anal sex?

Yep, I was about to mention this. Sometimes women can have a congenital fistula and they do not even know it because it is relatively small and has not yet caused them any problems.

There are some documented instances of pregnancy via anal intercourse because the woman had a fistula. These cases may be (considerably) rare, but it can happen. I remember reading about a case describing a woman who had no outer genitalia (i.e., no vulva or vaginal opening), so she and her husband always had anal intercourse. Yet she was able to conceive and bear several children this way due to a fistula connecting her anal canal to her internal vaginal canal. Interestingly enough, the flow from her menstrual cycle had always found its way out anally since she had no vaginal opening. But women who have small fistulae and who have a normal vaginal opening usually don't know about the fistula because the menstrual flow exits via the vaginal opening.

Also, even in women without a fistula, any semen that makes it to the vulva (by dripping down from the anal canal to the vulva when she is on her stomach or in the doggie position) could conceivably (pun intended) travel through the vaginal canal, resulting in pregnancy. Of course, if you were actively trying to have a baby, this (ejaculating on the outer vulva) is not the means I'd recommend trying as it is not nearly as likely to result in pregnancy, but it can (and does) happen to some women who had avoided vaginal penetration, but had allowed their partner to ejaculate externally on the vulva after manual stimulation and dry humping (though I maintain that the guy would have to ejaculate directly onto the naked vulva, which has become very wet with natural lubrication for this to ever successful happen . . . and even then it is probably a long shot -- though not an impossibility).

Moral of the story: don't use anal intercourse as a means of birth control. Any time you engage in anal or vaginal sex, make sure you are protected, be it with condoms, birth control pills, or what-have-you. Or have oral sex and be careful not to get any semen transferred to the vulva via fingers, lips, tongues, etc.

I didn't vote. I would have, had there been an option stating, "Not likely, though far from impossible."

Yes but only if he pulls out and shoves it in your vagina and cums...

I'm shocked that 25% of people actually think you can?!?!?

The truth is No, you can't.

Unless you are afflicted with Persistent Cloaca, the only way you can become pregnant from anal sex is if the sperm falls out, rounds a corner and re-enters the vagina. But the sperm would have to endure the PH shock of the rectal juices, then exposure to the air, once again survive another different PH of your vagina, travel the entire distance of your vagina, through your cervix and all the way to your fallopian tubes... AND you would have to be ovulating.

But if you can get pregnant that way, then you can get pregnant from giving a blow job, then kissing him, then he goes down on you. But at that point you may as well toss in public bathroom toilet seats as well.

Even if there's only a small chance, it means there is one. So yes, you can. And it's much much more likely than people give it credit for that sperm will survive leaking out of the anal canal and down to the vulva (especially in doggy style) and entering the vagina. They are persistent little buggers and can live for hours in the right condition outside the body and for days inside the vaginal canal waiting for ovulation.

The condition inside the mouth is not the same as inside the vagina so the likelihood of sperm surviving that is much smaller. And that's not considering the fact that people have the natural tendency to either swallow or spit it out rather than hold it in to transfer to the vagina during oral sex.

And there is practically zero chance of getting pregnant from sperm on a toilet seat because porcelain is NOT a conducive medium for allows cells to survive. It's cold, non-porous, and pretty much nothing survives. Also, as far as I know, no woman rubs her vulva on the seat. Only our thighs touch and that's not enough to invite the little swimmers inside.

What bothers me is people saying it could be possible but since it's not probable, they choose "no".

I was always taught that it was slightly possible. I'm not about to do some testing to figure this one out on my own.

I was being sarcastic because there isn't even a small chance, it's a microscopic chance. But if you consider microscopic chances as Yes's, then how can you discard the mouth and toilet seat scenereos as No's? Spit or swallow, it only takes one right? When some women fall into toilets, I don't don't think it's a stretch that she may miss the hole and land on the seat with her vulva. Or maybe it gets on her thighs and she decides to do a hand stand after she finishes and it runs down onto her vulva.

Where does it end?

(I would like to know what conditions sperm survives in outside the body for hours. You would have to have the right PH level, sugar supply, maintained temperature, ect.)

The vagina has a sperminal pool where the sperm collect and has the right conditions for them to live for days. So the right conditions ARE in the vagina.

And it's much higher than merely a microscopic chance. If there's any ejaculate or pre-cum involved in anal sex, it will leak out eventually because the rectum is made to push things out, not keep them in. And chances will increase if the woman is face down in some position where leakage goes down to her vulva.

Toilet seats still are a zero chance because the material of toilets are not capable of sustaining the live of sperm. It's cold, non-porous, etc. And the mouth? The condition inside our mouth is pretty deadly to sperm and is nothing like the conditions inside the vagina.

I think it needs to be knowledge couples are aware of because pregnancies do happen. Here is a website that does a great job at listing other facts about getting pregnant.

Any time there's semen in the genital region, there's risk. I wouldn't use it as a form of birth control, no.

The only way it is possible is if the sperm make it from the anus to the vagina all without dying. Not very likely going to happen.

Had it happen to a friend in college. OB said "I have seen this more then once"...as sperm drips down from anus to vagina. Crappy luck, and does not take much, but even during foreplay if you get close, ALL seminal fluid contains sperm...even those clear "pre cum" drops of "natural lube".

The chance, as others have said, of it happening are SLIM, but it is still within the realm of "statistically possible"....it is not a "guaranteed safe" thing to do.

Of coarse the right conditions are in the vagina, reproduction wouldn't work if it wasn't. But the sperm living long enough to make it to the sperminal pool you are referring to is 99.9% chance not going to happen. But the bottom line, you are talking VAGINAL. The question is ANAL.
