I'll usually write/say X-mas since I'm not christian but my family specifically celebrates christmas. But for many cases I just say "holidays" or Winter Break/Celebration because a lot of the people I talk to are also something other than christian and this way I'm including everyone.

The holidays. I'm not religious, but I celebrate the winter season with family and friends. Coming from a big family, there are several dinners to go to throughout December. And, it's all followed by spending New Year's with more family. So, Thanksgiving through New Year's is just "the holidays" to me.

Two months of stuffing yourself so full that you hate food by the time New Years is over. We humans SO need to hibernate. I volunteer to try!

I say Christmas with my family and friends, and with everyone else I just say "happy holidays". Calling it "holidays" ensures I offend less people.
It thus also APPLIES to more people. I wish everyone were as courteous, thoughtful, and respectful as you.

Winter Party Season. Christmas has become 'generic' in usage so I'm not offended if someone says it to me, although - if I do know a friend's faith that I'm familiar with - I will wish them a happy (insert holiday here). Others that I'm not familiar with get a general 'Happy Holidays'. Really not to be PC, but just to avoid offending that one hyper-sensitive person looking for an argument over schematics.

I call it "the holidays". I celebrate Hanukkah (I converted to Judaism a while ago) but the rest of my family celebrates a generic non-religious Christmas. My boyfriend's family is very religious so their Christmas is very loaded with Church and prayers and nativity scenes. Usually I am dragged along with his family to church, which I tolerate because I know supporting their beliefs is just as important as them being tolerant of mine.

No matter which is celebrated at which house I am just happy for the holidays in general because they mean beautiful decorations, great food and being able to buy people fun gifts (I love buying people things!)

I've never been religious and have been increasingly uncomfortable with the idea of celebrating a holiday I don't believe in.

So, while my family does the non-religious Christmas thing, I guess the closest thing I can really find it in myself to believe in is the Solstice.

I mean, it happens, it's a day, and gee isn't it nice the world made it around again without getting hit by anything big or exploding.
