In some ways, I loved school. But, I was, in some subjects 4 to 6 years ahead of many in my class. Our school didn't double promote, so I was bored shitless by most stuff by 3rd or 4th grade or so.
Our district was and still is one of the worst funded in the Chicago area, and there was no gifted program, so they would put 3 or 4 of us out in the hall with
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn or something like that, and leave us alone to teach ourselves or send us down the the primary grades to "help" the teacher with the little kids. What do you do when you have read Huckleberry Finn 8 times? You try to stay home, so you can read what you like!
Yes, I tried to stay home as much as I could.
I didn't actually enjoy school (for the learning part) until I was in college and being taught things I didn't already know. I rarely missed a day of class at University, as I was interested and wanted to be there.
