I scored a deep fryer fro my mother in law for $20 less on Ebay, and it was brand new! There are deals to be had. I'm an amazon shopper, but will go elsewhere if necessary.
BTW- If your running firefox, look for the add on called Invisible Hand it checks other sites to see if the price you are looking at is the best one. It does not work with all sites, but works on Amazon, Ebay and Walmart, along with a few others.
I do but not often. Usually, the buy it now prices aren't that great and I will only bid if it's something I'm desperate for.
Actually, this week, I almost bought a new lens for my camera but then I looked into the seller and realized they had a regular ecommerce website and the deal was even better there!
I've never had anyone take my money which is verified by paypal and not send the item, but that's a risk with any site. I've never had any issues and until I do I will continue to buy online.
I don't run firefox, but thanks for this tip. I usually try nextag and type the item I'm looking for and that helps a little bit.
Bought my youngest an old NES game system off ebay for Christmas this year. My kids are into a lot of retro toys so every Christmas I'm usually hunting something down on Ebay for them. I've always had pretty good experiences. That just reminded me, I need to go in and rate my recent purchase! Thanks for the reminder
I've bought and sold things on ebay, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. It's where I buy my hair dye, because the only other place I can find it is most expensive per bottle and only worth it if I planned on buying a lot because shipping was almost the cost of one bottle, and then they weren't always in stock.
i love ebay. i don't sell anything, & i don't buy too often from lack of money, but i can spend hrs looking at stuff. whenever i really want something, i look at it on amazon & ebay & compare prices.
I've bought and sold things on ebay for the last few years. I usually compare prices between there and another site named after a S. American river. I've scored quite a few good deals off Ebay this last year.
I get lots of things on eBay and have sold on there, too !
The only problem I have EVER had was ONE time as a seller, someone bought and never paid. It wasn't really a big deal, I just filed it with eBay and relisted the item.
You just have to be safe - I think scammers are banking on you being too nice and sending the item out before realising they didn't pay. :/
I got my sewing machine on there, for "local pickup".
I will buy things like school textbooks on eBay if they are cheaper there, just depends on prices.
I've bought lots of costume parts on there, too. I got some great jump boots for my Clockwork Orange costume off eBay - I just had to hammer a nail back in them and they fit PERFECTLY.
I got a pair of $250 boots for $14. Sold my iPod to someone in Russia, my Doc Martens to someone in Brooklyn.
No, I quit Ebay several years ago. Kept getting ripped off. Lol. Plus now you can most things sell at retail price on Ebay, well most things I'm interested in anyway. It was just too much trouble.
However, since you mentioned buying books there, I thought I'd leave you some suggestions. If you're into this sort of thing there's a site called paperbackswap.com and you simply swap books with others for free. You only pay to ship them their books and they pay to ship yours. You can ship books for a decent price too. It's a very friendly, simple site! I've gotten books there and made nice friends. Check them out if you want.
I buy and sell on ebay. But I'll only buy using paypal cause it's the safest. If the person doesn't bother to send the item/s, then paypal has always been happy to send my money back to me without any issues.
I have cut my buying down some cause items on there are often the same if not higher priced than store bought now. Plus ya have the damn shipping on top. Ya HAVE to know your prices. I always hunt around online elsewhere, including stores I can go into and purchase in person so I know I'm getting the best price.
i usually buy on ebay..not too much, though. only if i really want something/need a part for my computer. i've only sold something once..might put one of my old cell phones for sale.
I buy a few things off of eBay. I'm not as trusting of that site as I am with amazon (despite the better payment scheme) because I've had a higher percentage of my items be not as described on eBay than amazon. Like just yesterday, I got an archery bow string that was 10" too short.

I hate when an items shipping costs about the same as the product you are ordering.
