Have you ever ended an LTR over family(theirs or yours) and your partner's lack of control or care?

My now ex's mother has always been resentful of our relationship and his bond with me--but since her husband died she has been overbearing, controlling, drunk and told me many times she would break us up if it was the last thing she ever did. She helped him to succeed in breaking our a 16 year marriage. It does not help any that she used to be a good friend of mine, she is also a drunk, she is very emotionally needy/abusive and she has alienated everyone in her family and her friends to the point where she has no one but him around.

My ex got very abusive with me and my daughter, son in law and their year old baby...kicking us out of the house in the middle of the night in the dead of winter. I am filing for divorce today.
