We usually get rid of toys after 1-2 years, we have some nice and fairly expensive glass toys that are 5-7 years old. They were expensive because we bought them when they were still very new and I believe still made in the US or Europe.

My oldest is three years old. It is almost exactly like this (same company and everything), except it is a dolphin instead of a butterfly. I do not use it very much anymore, as it is a pain to keep clean and is really not all that worth the trouble.
