Bobby Sox by Vivid - review by SerpentLibertine

I'd been hearing about "Bobby Sox" for quite some time now as being one of Vivid video's masterpieces and the "crowning jewel" in director Paul Thomas' long and illustrious career. This 1997 feature features a who's who of 90's porn stars including Nikki Tyler, Steven St. Croix, Shanna McCullough, Jon Dough, Jenteal, Chloe, Bobby Vitale, and Kimberley Cummings. The star of the show, however, is 70's star Jamie Gillis, long regarded as one of the greatest actors in porn, who plays Jeremy Dalton, a washed-up alcoholic actor by the name of Jeremy Dalton. Dalton and his partner Cully (Jon Dough) are traveling to a small town for the premier of Dalton's latest flick, a sci-fi alien movie that's playing at a local theater owned by a mother and daughter.

Nikki Tyler plays the daughter, Sheri, and accompanied by her boyfriend Nick (Steven St.Croix), they get mixed up in a kidnapping plot of a young cheerleader (Chloe). Dalton gets blamed for the crime, arrested by local cops, and is later rescued by Sheri and theater worker Billy (Bobby Vitale) in a hilarious outhouse scene. Without giving too much away, there's lots of plot twists and turns, decent character development, and a variety of locations. In fact, not one sex scene here takes place in a bedroom.

This is definitely "porn with a plot" and the sex here is somewhat secondary, with the storyline and action sequences pretty much guiding the way. In addition, unlike the long drawn-out sex scenes of today's porn, most of the scenes are just a few minutes long and to the point. Lots of good chemistry between performers and even some kissing in a few scenes. Ahhhh...almost like 70's porn!

Scene highlights include Tyler and Bobby Vitale getting it on in a movie theater while a voyeristic theater-goer jacks off to the "live sex show" he's getting, and the always explosive Chloe getting anally pounded until she has another one of her famous orgasmic seizures (the scene is cut a bit short, though). The best scene is saved for last, as usual, with the still sexy Gillis getting tied up and dominated by McCullough (with tan lines in full effect) in various ways. A little bit of crossdressing, cock torture, ass licking, and then some hardcore fucking until she swallows his cum.

Most people laugh when they hear about "acting" in porn, but it's really the performances of Jamie Gillis and Steven St. Croix that drive this release. it's well-done in a variety of ways from lighting to story, to the variety of sex and locations. If you're looking for wall-to-wall sex, you may want to pass this one up. it's truly a straight narrative film, with some sex thrown in the mix just for fun. If you don't mind checking out an older release that still holds its own, definitely check out "Bobby Sox."
