This bullet is made of plastic. The finish of the plastic is smooth and velvety, almost like velvet cote. It's tasteless but has a slight plasticy smell (although that could potentially be the packaging). The control button on the base (which clicks gratifyingly when you push it) is made of squishier, clear plastic. This toy is entirely body-safe.
The Hollow Points bullet has a narrow head and a slightly wider body with four textured ridges. The base of the bullet is slightly wider still with the control button on the bottom. This bullet is slightly wider than the "standard" silver bullets I own. At slightly over two inches long, the Hollow Points is less than an inch across at its widest point, so it is suitable for use with silicone toys with holes in the base for bullets.
The ridges are a standout feature on this toy. Most bullets are texture-less, and the ridges really add a lot to this toy. For me, the texture makes this toy exciting enough for use on its own for labial and clitoral stimulation, rather than a mere accessory to other toys or for foreplay.
Another stand-out point of this toy is the fact that it has five settings. The first is a low constant buzz (zzzzz). The second is a slightly more powerful constant buzz (ZZZZZ). The third is a constant pulse (zz...zz...zz...zz...zz). The fourth is a faster pulse (z.z.z.z.z.z.z). The final speed is a variable pulsation (z.zzzz.z.zzzz.z.zzzz). You must cycle through all five settings to turn the bullet off.
This bullet is waterproof and the seal is definitely secure. The ridges and the drag of the matte plastic provide an enjoyable bath-time or shower-time experience.
The inclusion of the extra watch battery was thoughtful, because you will need it. The Hollow Points bullet burns through batteries at a fairly fast rate (I'd say I got about 20 minutes out of it before I had to use the extra battery).
Plastic is phthalates free but cannot be sterilized, so use a condom if sharing. Soap and water will do fine for cleaning this toy, but you can use antibacterial wipes or toy cleaner as well. You don't need to take too much care during washing, as the Hollow Points is waterproof. Just make sure to screw the battery cap down tightly before submerging to clean.
The packaging for this bullet is definitely minimalist: it comes in a rectangular plastic box only slightly larger than the bullet itself, which is covered by a clear plastic package with the Evolved logo and disclaimers printed on it. Inside the box, the bullet is nestled in a plastic insert. The extra battery that comes with the toy is stored underneath this insert. The whole package is about four inches long and an inch and a half wide. I, for one, appreciate the effort Evolved went through to created minimal waste. The packaging is also suitable for long-term storage.
Bottom line: the bullet will do all the things a normal wireless silver bullet can do. The upgrade you get is the fun color, ridged texture, and multiple pulsation patterns. It's one step up from your average bullet vibrator. I'm knocking a star off of the rating for the extremely short battery life, but otherwise this is an excellent bullet choice.
