Do you like the idea of locking steel collars as a symbol of ownership?

Well, actually, thanks for those suggestions, they're actually quite nice! But, I was really wondering if they made collars that aren't leather or metal but still have the ability to be locked, because of my aforementioned skin condition. Do you or anyone else here know? Or might perhaps have any input about a locking collar throw off our balance of power...? Since we both switch for each other, and both of us owns the other, as in, we're both owners and we're both property. Hmmm. Thoughts...?

I found a site with a few beautiful locking metal collars that I would love to have. I have my eye set on one that is curved for the shape of your collar bone so that it is more comfortable to wear. They look discreet and very cute with a small heart shaped lock.

If your balance of power is "even" or something, a collar might not be the best thing for you. Unless of course you wanted one. But, most of the time, they do imply ownership and a strong D/s or even M/s dynamic to the relationship.

Will a collar "throw off" your balance of power? How much have you investigated your power dynamic? As collars imply the wearer of the collar is owned by the holder of the key, then, yes, it may be something you don't want to get into.

It's a huge commitment, to wear a collar. IMO, even more than wearing a wedding ring (this is just my opinion.) I wear slave bracelets, and a leather cuff (without a lock or D ring on it, but it conveys a message) and I also often wear a hand cuff key around my neck on a silver chain. But, My Man and I have a D/s relationship, the power dynamic is not "even." He's My Dom and we both realized the dynamic and accept it.

It isn't for everyone. I know I'd wear a collar if my health would allow it. But, I would carry an "Oh Shit" key (a key the sub carries in case the collar needs to be removed for medical reasons) at all times and make sure the location of the key was on my medical card, so it could be found.

When I worked as a nurse, once in a great while someone would come in with a locking collar. As many medical tests, from X Rays, to MRIs to even thorough exams require the collar to be removed, it was helpful if the person did carry his or her own key. Most subs understand these keys are only for absolute emergencies.

I used to have one when I was with my ex and I hated it. First, it was way too heavy and extremely uncomfortable to sleep in. Secondly, it's not discreet and people were asking "Hey, is that a collar?" Yeah, so much for that.

Honestly, get a bracelet or anklet or something. Even a ring. Anything can symbolize a collar and the bond that you have with your partner that isn't a "traditional" collar.

I love collars in general. I am very fortunate to be at a place in my life where it doesn't really matter how obvious it is. My problem is that I have a lot of metal allergies. I found, once, locking 18 karat gold collars and I lusted after one harder than anything (except maybe Jennifer Connelly when I was 13). They are way Way WAY out of my price range and sadly I can't find the website anymore even if I stumbled across a winning lotto ticket.

If I could have a locking collar that didn't make me break out I'd wear it every day and take the opportunity when people asked "what's that" to educate them a little about D/s dynamics.

I take it this means no aluminum as well? I know Ring of Steel offers that option. That or maybe a gold omega necklace can fill that need as well. They sit in about the same place and are much lighter.

No aluminum, nothing with nickel/copper/brass... etc.

I do ok with titanium, surgical steel, and gold.

Gold Omega Necklace? I'll have to look that up!

Right now I have a collar of red and silver chain, and it is locked around my neck with a small padlock. But eventually we hope to get me a turian collar, the kind of metal collars with no visible lock that Eternity Collars sell.

Really big fan on collars though given our work they'd be slightly improper unless it was something ornate/decorative (more choker less traditional collar).

I love that type of collar, although I would probably never be able to wear one 24/7 due to my job. *sighs* Maybe some day, though.

I love the idea of one, but for us they wouldn't be practical for most play or life situations.

A collar, no. Symbols and brandings don't really appeal to me. But the thought of other types of symbols do appeal to me.

I have a friend who has stainless steel earrings that she wears with that symbolism in mind. She can't take them out herself (6g steel CBR, requires pliers) so she thought that'd make an effective "lock" for her and her partner's purposes.

While it isn't for me, I do love the idea. We just wear rings as our symbols, but I've seen collars and bracelets on other people as well.

I don't own one but have considered it. I have really bad arthritis in my neck and was worried that it would affect it. I have other collars which I wear which are loose and better for it. Don't think that one would be very good.

I really like the idea of them.
I have yet to try out a leather collar. But I think once we get funds settled and such we'll be buying one.
Then maybe we can upgrade to an eternity collar.

I wear a black, leather, buckle collar with a ring just because I love how it feels and looks, but it doesn't mean anything. I do have a locking collar, but its leather too, and I never wear it as anything but a fashion statement. I don't see any reason why it should be a bad thing, and I find nothing wrong with wearing one. I know that my mom has a collar, and I don't see any problem. I also know that I get a lot of taunting and teasing about being a "goth" or a "bitch" (like a dog), for it.

I think they can be okay, but they just aren't my thing...I like to be able to take everything off at the end of a long day and just "be", so to speak. For others though, I don't see any problem with them.
