Ive never had Hamburger Helper in my entire life. What does it taste like? Ive never had a hot pocket, or pop tart either Im really weird. I think its a cultural thing. And now Im grown up so I make dinner dinner, I guess I missed that period of time of Hamburger Helper, hot pockets and pop tarts.

And now so do I! I never that's what it meant. But I also know that different words mean different things in different Hispanic cultures. I only know Castllion Spanish, so I just end up confusing people.

Hey everybody! While we wait for everyone to trickle in, tell me about your favorite meals / feasts / cookies you've had over the last month. Anything special any relative made you, or you made for them?

I guess we're all into tripe and lengua and... Starkiller, I don't even know how to say eyeballs in Spanish... ojos?

Anyway, the recipes we'll be learning tonight just have easily-obtainable grocery store cuts of meat, but you can add offal to your pho if you want. A lot of people love soft tendon.

Um, it has a high salt content (which I love) and basically everything tastes exactly the same---a slightly punched up tomato sauce with a lot of cumin.

Oh yeah totally. Everyone I know calls Rice Sopa. And other hispanics call rice arroz. And soup sopa. Everything is so different depending on who you ask.

My mum makes these shortbread cookies that are wonderful. Also, since I had surgery over the winter break, I had tons of matzoh ball soup made for me.

I'm cooking a pot of Indian curried lamb in the oven right now, so I can have time to be here.

Yes ojos.

Ive been trying to figure out how to cook talapia lately if anyone has a good recipe. I bought a ton at costco but I thought the last time I made it came out too bland though I seasoned it a ton. Any ideas anyone?

Shoot, I'd been following what's written on the bags and would have defaulted to arroz. Ah well.

Is a congratulations in order for said surgery or was this bad surgery?

My mother makes a great stew that I love; now that I have my first apartment, I'm going to make it sometime!

Italian dressing. I swear! Marinate for no more than 20 minutes or else the acid will break down the meat and then grill it or bake it in the oven. It's so good!

I would try it but Id have to have it already cooking before my boyfriend got home. He hates dressings and condiments and most sauces that arent red. Hes such a picky eater, but his mom is the same way so I know where he got it from.

I made my famous pot roast for our Christmas dinner. And we had cornish hens for Thanksgiving. I'm a master when it comes to those two things.

Do you want it fried or baked?

If you're baking it, I default to worchestershire sauce and garlic for flavoring very bland things, but I'm sure there are other ideas around here too!

My favorite holiday meal was a beautifully made Chicken Kiev. Mmmm.

And my husband fried chicken thighs in a wok and I swear to all things holy it was the best fried chicken I've ever had in my life. And he only used a smidge of oil.

I haven't had Cornish hens for years, and that will need to change.

Baking, I love fried fish but were trying to cut down on fried foods. I added butter, garlic, salt, pepper when I cooked it last. It wasnt bad but it wasnt like remarkable at all. I want something with some flavor punched in it.

So for anyone who's never been to an Eden Cooks meeting before, welcome! Basically, kick back, get ready to hit F5 or apple+r to refresh your browser a bunch, read along, ask questions that pop up, and answer questions that you have answers for! We're glad to have you!

Also, for those who have been here before, I'm going to do something a little different with some of the trivia questions this time. Instead of bombarding you with horticultural details (because in soups and stews, the focus is on the broth) I'll just ask a few questions for discussion through the meeting. At the end of the meeting, instead of having gift cards awarded for reciting the trivia answers I gave you, they will be given for answering questions based on the things we've all discussed. If this is confusing, yell at me and I'll try something else next time!

Shouldn't be too difficult to do. Fish thaws really quickly and you can scrape off whatever "evidence" may remain before you cook it.

Sam, is this the first meeting ever you won't be attending on an empty stomach?
Hahaha, there have been a few here and there that I either wasn't hungry or had already eaten. I scarfed some leftovers from my dinner on Thursday, and hopefully tomorrow I'll start eating last night's leftovers. My mom made lasagna for my birthday, in a turkey roasting pan. This thing seriously weighed like, 25 pounds, lol.
