As far as topics go, how personal is too personal?

I swear I remember reading something in the Sexis FAQ saying that bloggy, personal posts would be returned to you rather than published... but sometimes events in our own lives are the perfect jumping off point for articles, so I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on this a bit and help me out. Is it more about HOW the article is written that would cause it to be rejected? I'm a little confused.
