FtM HRT throat soreness

Contributor: butts butts
I've read countless posts on various sites about FtMs on testosterone who experience a mysterious throat soreness a few months after starting T that is said to be related to your changing vocal chords. Has anyone here experienced it, and does anyone have any suggestions for helping it? I'm not in any terrible pain, it's just a bit tight and sore, and it's much too hot this month for hot tea!

I've been on T for close to 2 years now, and I've heard of this happening but never experienced it myself. My voice just used to crack a lot. I do have vocal cord dysfunction though, so granted with that it would be hard to tell if the T was causing any pain anyway I guess. I saw a speech specialist and got some breathing exercises for vocal cord dysfunction that are mostly about relaxed breathing and taking deep breaths, and was told to try to avoid too much acidic foods and foods that can cause heartburn/reflux. I don't know if that would help with vocal cord problems caused by T though.

I'm on T, but I haven't really experienced it myself. I think I felt like it was closer to the feeling of something large stuck in my throat :S hard to explain, but it sorta felt like it was widening or something? It wasn't sore enough to cause me to remember whether it really was or not xD so not that much impact.

I felt that the soreness came more from me being unused to how to use my voice. I try to do things that I can't do anymore. I felt that the sourness came from my use of my voice did not change with the changes in my vocal cords.

I've heard of it. I wonder if some of it is because trans* guys often strain their voices to try to sound lower.

My husband was starting T and quitting smoking at the same time. He blamed his sore throat on not being able to smoke. Whatever the cause was, we have a medicated lozenge called Tyrozets. My aunt would send them in from the UK, so I'm not sure where to get them otherwise. He found they helped a lot, and they are great at preventing throat infection.

I've been on T for 7 months and I experience this every few weeks. It's a strange soreness that sticks around for a day or two. I'm not sure where it may come from.

I've been on T for 4 months now and haven't had this happen to me, and to be honest I haven't heard of it either and I do research a lot. However I have heard of people's voices cracking.

This is going to sound odd btw but sometimes when I am very, very drunk I get a terrible pain in my throat, but sharp like an acute injury. I don't know whether this is just my mind messing with me or whether I am feeling something which is otherwise not in my conscious mind. It seems odd though considering alcohol generally lessens pain felt, so I have no explanation.

Lol the irony of stumbling across this page and NOW my throat is hurting D:....I think I'm just sick though, but I'll be surprised if I get another voice change this late in transition though it sounds kinda different to me this week.

I did experience it and I definitely believe it was due to the voice change.

I'm on T but I didn't experience this. I started young and on a low dose so the change was very gradual.
