To keep kids safe, and control the whole event, our entire neighborhood is doing a "block party" Halloween. All the families are bringing candy, but we also have a "haunted house and trail", a DJ with "spooky dances" and more "pot luck" cooking for adults to enjoy. We set up on the curb all up and down the street and up and down the next. Since we are a private community, we even blocked off the street to car traffic, so kids and adults can just walk around safe. Basically about 100 homes involved and everyone now knows everyone. It is our second years doing this, and the kids love it (way better candy), the adults love it (no worries and great company and food). There was even a block captain who collected donations and so there will be beer and wine for the adults and an "ice cream station" for everyone (we are in the warm south...so a hot chocolate station is not needed)! Anyone else do these "Block Parties"? I highly recommend these now, even though our little girl is grown up, we are still having a blast. Even the old, OLD folks on the block are enjoying it.
