John Birmingham series...starting with Weapons of Choice (Modern warships catapulted back to WW2) because they expound on the INFLUENCE on society this would have...from MUSIC to passing up Black and White TV and going right to color....and a million other little things. VERY thought provoking.

How about YOUR favorite time shift books??? (Guns of the South pretty good too).

I'm not sure if this is what you mean by time shift, but one of my favorite series is about an English nurse in Scotland just after WWII (1940's) and she goes back in time to the 1740's. It is a great series by Diana Gabaldon. The first book is called Outlander. It is a little bit romance a little bit historical fiction, a little bit drama. It really doesnt fit into a catagory. The first book was the author's first novel, and I think they get better as the series goes on.
