I don't usually wear hats, I don't think that I look good in them.
But my fiance bought me this hat:
and it's just so warm! I can't help myself, I have to wear it everywhere!

I wear hats all the time. Keeping my hair tied in braids help me avoid the hat hair issue most of the time. =]

If my hair already looks horrible and it's cold out, I'll put on a Russian bomber hat... but other than that, NO WAY! I always get hat hair and look bad in hats usually.

If I think I might wear a hat that day, I put less product in my hair. That way it doesn't get stuck in a weird shape.

My curly hair tends to go all willy nilly and do what it likes anyway, so hoods and hats seem to have no effect on it for me.

I will occasionally wear a hat outside when its cold or to keep the sun off, but being that I shave my head, I don't deal with hat hair.
