Does your brain loop?

Contributor: - Kira - - Kira -
I know most people say a song gets stuck in their head sometimes. Lately, one verse of a song or a sentence from a TV show or something will pop in my head and start repeating over and over and over. It goes on for some time and I can't think of much else over the looping verse or phrase. I asked my husband if this happened to him (my sanity check!) and he said it does. So I thought I'd pose the question here. Does your brain loop like that?

Side question - my husband says that when his brain loops a verse from a song, he can't hear the actual beat of the music, just the words. I can sometimes hear the music along with it. If your brain loops and it's from a song, do you hear the words only or the music along with it?

I learned a while ago when I was getting help, that thought processes can be habitual.

If you have an ear worm, the best thing to do is listen to the song over and over and over again until it's gone.

You're not alone - it happens to me all the time. The worst is when it's a song that I don't like.

Happens to me all the time, my head is like a jukebox. xD
If I get bored and my iPod is dead I can think of a song and sort of "hear" it playing in my mind.

Generally a song only gets "stuck" in my head if it's one I just discovered and I love it or if it's one of the really catchy ones I listen to almost daily.

Yes just today I had the chorus to Flock of Seagul's "I Ran" stuck in my head all day.

This used to happen to me more often when my kids were small and I played kid music in the car to keep them happy. Now I have "baby beluga" stuck in my head. LOL Oddly enough this happens occasionally with poems I memorized as a child and there is no accompanying music, just a line or 2 that repeats for a while.

Yes, and sometimes it can be something on my mind, and then it just keeps repeating over, and over, and over again.

Oh yeah! I usually try to listen to the song, as JR mentioned. I usually only listen to it once though - sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. I'll have to try listening to it over and over and see if that helps.

it happens alot. i'm very deeply connected with music. sometimes it'll happen for days at a time. i go to sleep singing the song in my head, and wake up and it's there again. can get pretty damn annoying.

it also happens with phrases, usually spoken or thought by myself, or others, or clips from the radio, or even sounds or combinations of sounds i hear. i turn them into a rhythm in my head and repeat them over and over. not on purpose, only because i'm insane.

Yes. This can be utterly annoying when a song you hate won't get the fuck outta your head. LOL.

This happens to me a lot. The music, the lyrics and the percussion. I have OCD so it kind of goes with that for this kind of thing to happen often. People without OCD have this happen this alone isn't diagnostic, of course, but if you have OCD (I check things too) then this kind of loop is the way your brain is wired.

I actually find listening to a different song helps. I have a Traveling Wilbury's song in my head now, and I am too lazy to find an other song to get this out of my dang head.

This happens to me a lot. I usually end up with Theme songs from TV shows and movies I watch over and over again because of my sons stuck in my head. Like Blues Clues, SpongeBob, and much more. But then The Doors always have a special place in my brain. They never leave and I'll never let them escape.

YES!!! Here is one on my mind right now!! ENJOY!!

Daniel Boone - Theme Song Lyrics

Daniel Boone was a man, yes a big . . . . man!
With an eye like an eagle, and as tall as a mountain was he!

Daniel Boone was a man, yes a big . . . . man!
He was brave; he was fearless, and as tough as a mighty oak tree!

From the coonskin cap on the top of old Dan, to the heel of his rawhide shoe;
The rippin'est, roarin'est, fightin'est man, the frontier ever knew!

Daniel Boone was a man, yes a big . . . . man!
And he fought for America, to make all Americans free.

What a Boone! What a do'er! What a dream come truer was he!

now try to get that one out of your mind!!!

Yep, I've had this happen numerous times. I just roll with it until it stops because it's usually a song/music.
