My hubby and I, at the moment, have 2 "living rooms". Only one in which we actually live in.

First living room: Partially attached to the kitchen. Two long couches, a HUGE big screen, a medium sized coffee table, a tall lamp, and an ... more
What you describe really IS like ours. Right at the front door (which is glass), so people DO see into there first...before we even open the door. Sure LOOKS nice. Big, Huge, ABANDONED, clean room with nice, unused furniture...and maybe a dog, laying on the sofa, like in a newspaper furniture ad!!!!! Even when we put logs in the fireplace in the winter, it is a waste, as the fire burns with no one to see it.

Well considering we only have the one living room, I dont feel it as a wasted space. Its got almost everything in there, our laptops, the tv, DVD player and gaming systems. We love to spend time in our living room and entertain in there just because its so huge. One of my goals is turn one half of our living room into a small library. I have already started I need more books and bookshelves though. But yeah I love our living room

I don't have one now, unsure whether if I would really want one other than for the nice view from the front door factor. We had one when I was a child, it was huge! The only time I was ever allowed in that room was for special occasions.

If it's never used, then it does seem like a waste of space, but I think a lot of people appreciate them for the status it shows since they are generally only in upper class homes.

Personally, I hate when I go into someones house and it's "Show room perfect". I feel like it I drop a crumb or move something over an inch that it's going to be a big deal, and just can't relax.

My parents already have a relatively small house but even then we rarely use the main living room. When we have large amounts of visitors we'll go in there. And that's generally wear we put the Xmas tree. But generally we use, what we call, the den. It's not as large but it's off the kitchen and more accessible and the dogs are allowed in there.

As for my apartment, it's even smaller but I only use it when I'm cleaning/ cooking/ having company.

We have a great room which basically combines the two in one longer room and I love it! If I want to read a book I go to one side and if I want to watch TV the other.

we use every room in our house. We have a dinning room, living room, and a family room. They all get used every day.

I live in a small apartment so just have the livingroom besides the standard kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, closet..if anything my bedroom is turning into a waste of space..I spend about 90% of my time in the livingroom now, usually falling asleep on the couch in front of the tv haha
