Do you have to have noise in your room to sleep, or do you have to have it silent?

I like it silent. Before I was married I could sleep with the tv on. But I need it to be quiet now. must be getting old!

I absolutely have to have noise. When I lived in the city I got used to all the noise at night. Now I use a fan. It's almost impossible for me to sleep without some kind of repetitive background noise.
