parents, what are you teaching your kids about sex ed?

T&A1987 T&A1987

The above article describes teens who get pregnant and their ignorance and naivete. For example, "8 percent said they thought their sex partner was sterile. Twenty-two percent of the teens said they did not mind getting pregnant." Or what about "Of teen moms who reported not using birth control, 31 percent said they did not believe they could get pregnant at the time." Between these articles, the "how is babby formed" questions that appear on yahoo answers, there seems to be a a dearth of sex ed information both in schools and families. What do/will you teach your kids?

My son is only 6 right now but he has already "discovered" himself. I explained to him that it was a private thing and if he needed to touch himself please close his door and I will knock before coming in. I hope this prompts him when he is older to come to me with any questions he has.

When he does come to me I will explain not only the perks, but the consequences as well. I hope to have at least 10 more years before he actually wants to have sex, but you never know. So I hope to have him educated and safe when the time comes.

(If I had a choice though I would lock him up until he was married. )

When I was little (4 or 5), I asked my mom how I was created. My mom told me that her egg was fertilized by my dad's sperm. It became a fertilized egg. After the fertilized egg grew in her body for 9 months, she gave birth to me. I was satisfied with the answer, and didn't question about the process anymore until I was 13. If I ever have children, this is what I would tell them.
