I heard on the radio once about a study done on this and they said 12 partners was ideal, where you likely find the person you're best suited with if you've tested out others. I think being with only one person will make you wake up 20 years from now and say "wow, what did I miss out on?"

I'm going to go with the average, overall, is 10 and under.
Really, it's nothing to dwell on. Who cares how many people you have been with? Have fun, be safe, and do what you want.
I also found this. Which is fun just to click on. It compares your number to the average. It told me the average for females is roughly 6.6 in the US. Mine is higher because I've had 8. I decided to check males too. It says 11 is the average for them.
If you have time play around with the above link^. It even compares your penis size to the "average" size.

Well, don't I feel like a slut. I've had between 20 and 30 sex partners, and I'm in my early 20s. I had an oversexed phase in junior high and high school. In the past, say, 5 years, I've only had 2 partners, both of whom were/are significant others.
My significant other has had... he says, "well over a hundred" partners. He's in his early 40s.

Two. And I, like you, wanted to be with one person for the rest of my life, but that didn't work out too well. :-( I have nothing against people who've been with dozens or even hundreds of people, but for me, sex is about love and commitment.

I kinda feel like a slut reading these 'averages'. I'm 26 and I've been with 17 people. I had a serious slut phase between partners. I've had 3 serious relationships in my sexual life. The rest of the guys were people that I was casual with until we reached my rule limit and I walked away.

2. I'm still young though. I don't think there is such a thing as too many, that is up to the individual. My best friend has had more than 20 and we are the same age but she engages in casual sex and one night stands while I prefer not to do so for my own reasons.

I've only ever had one partner and I love it that way. But sometimes I wonder about having other relationships and how that would change my perception of things. I don't WANT to but I wonder about it.

3 for me I was an idealist when I was a teen and thought I'd save myself until I got married and I'd go to the US Virgin Islands on my honeymoon and loose my virginity. LOL; it didn't work out that way but each partner was a serious relationship and I wouldn't change it.

I understand the feeling. I've been with 14 and also only wanted to be with one, but life didn't work out that way and I made a lot of mistakes in emotional moments.
