Yes to pot and also yes to most other drugs as well. Black market on drugs means additives that cause more deaths than there would be otherwise. Plus most drug violence is caused by the fact that it is distributed on the streets instead of regular stores. So perhaps not crack or meth, but I'd be willing to give an all clear on taxing and regulating pretty much everything else out there. If people choose to be messed up all the time so be it. No one seems to mind if people are drunk constantly and I really don't see much of a difference. You can die either way. It's your life and you should be free to do with it what you choose. Clearly there should still be laws on not driving under the influence of dangerous substances.

Yes! More moolah for the government and it would help decrease gang violence related to marijuana.

Yes! I am with stainedclear! The war on drugs is not working the way they are handling it. When you take down one drug dealer all it does is open the gates for someone worse to step into their place. There is never not going to be drugs. Since the dawn of man, we have tried to find all kinds of ways to make ourselves feel good. That means drugs, sex, and anything else.

My solution take out the drug dealers by becoming the drug dealers ourselves. Setup places were you can purchase your drugs, tax the hell out of them. Even setup places were you can be administered a proper dosage by a trained professional. This would help with gang violence, try to regulate who gets what, help with over doses and the spread of diseases.

First off, there is no test to tell how high you are, like with alcohol. So how can you set a legal limit on how much you can smoke and still be at work? Or Driving a car? I dont think it should be legal. I know enough people who are brain dead from smoking too much. And I know that I dont want to be around someone at work who has been smoking, I like coming home safe and un harmed.

Legalize, regulate, and tax. It would help alleviate a portion of the underground drug market. Because if people can get one drug legally versus another drug illegally, many people will go for the legal option.

Legalize and tax it, just like cigarettes and alcohol.

But, surely, if the way they're doing it now, couldn't they just try another way, without making it legal?

Legalize it. Don't mess with my herbs and I won't mess with your booze/coffee/cigs/pres cription meds for all you naysayers who judge the substance unfairly

Prohibition of substances has never been an especially effective way to keep people from taking them. It is, however, terribly expensive.

Prohibition has never worked, it only creates a new black market. Pot smokers are (typically) non violent offenders. Their prosecution leads to overcrowded prisons and more waste of tax payers money. This being said- I do not believe in ANY VICTIM-LESS CRIMES.

Legalize and regulate it. It's our #1 cash crop! That money belongs in the pockets of farmers and retailers, not gangs.

Absolutely legalize it. It's such a huge drag on the country to jail these small-time itty bitty drug offenders. It would do us good to legalize, regulate and tax pot.

Absolutely legalize. I could not agree more with Stainedclear and HoopKitten.

@ married with children: As far as being high at work or behind the wheel, it being illegal isn't preventing that either. If someone is intoxicated while driving, they get thrown in jail. If they show up at work intoxicated, they get fired. I don't see why this issue could not be dealt with the same as we deal with alcohol or prescription drugs.

I'm just worried that with how addicted Americans are to drugs that if they legalize it things will go downhill more than they are. I mean other countries have it but they don't have nearly as much addicts/abuse as we do here. I may offend someone but that is't my intent but I just get disgusted when people come out in public and stink like hell because they just used. I HATE the smell of marijuana, it makes me sick to my stomach. I used to sit near this guy in class that came in smelling like a damn bong every class and my fiance's brother does it outside around the back of the house and when he comes back in it LINGERS forever and makes me gag. It's bad enough with alcohol alone and all the assholes drunk driving killing people or getting into drunken fights where others get hurt or killed. No thanks.

I say legalize it. Won't go into all the reasons I believe it should be legalized, but here's a great video of Ron Paul explaining it very succinctly: link

I don't smoke but I find it absolutely ridiculous that alcohol and tobacco are legal but not not marijuana. Alcohol and tobacco are way more addictive and potentially dangerous. Marijuana is really pretty tame and it would be nice if we could make money off of it.

I say legalize and tax the crap out of it. BUT ONLY AFTER they come up with a reliable way of roadside testing that works (there is no current dependable roadside test).

Also, to anyone who has actually smoked knows that the effects of marijuana are WAY more mild than that of alcohol.
