Can you review condoms if you don't have a sex partner?

Contributor: Love Perpetua Love Perpetua
I received a push assignment for condoms, and I'd love to do a review. However, I don't have a male partner to sex test them with. I could hypothetically use them as a toy cover and test them that way, and obviously I would do my research and present all the info about the condom, material, size, etc., but I wouldn't be able to give a male perspective.

I want to be a good reviewer, but I'm not sure if it's fair to the readers/shoppers if I can't at least say how they felt from a male perspective in terms of sensation. What do you guys think?

You can absolutely review condoms as toy covers...it's one use isn't it? If you're looking for help on reviewing condoms, ask Sam or ~Laur3n~

Ok, thanks JR! That's what I will do then. I suppose if I am in a sexual relationship later on (with someone other than myself and my toys) I can write about sex use in a follow-up.

This is probably the more rational approach... in the same situation, I'd be tempted to call up a friend and say "hey! Can you put this on and tell me if it's too tight?"

But that's probably not the ethical approach, either

It's what we call "the hilarious approach." Dang, I wish I'd kept in contact with more of my guy friends from high school - some of them would have probably given quite amusing reactions in this situation.

My only concern would be that general readers may not appreciate that perspective alone and may vote the review lower because of it.

Yeah, I was concerned about that too, but I have recently read a review in which a dildo wasn't used internally and everyone thought it was still extremely useful so it seems like it can be done. Even though I probably won't be able to use it during sex or give a male perspective during the review period, I will give everyone a thorough rundown of the features and how it works as a toy cover. If/when I get laid, I'll update the review.

If the title and tone of the review reflect it, I don't think it's inappropriate to have a very specific focus or exclusively female perspective. The diversity of the reviews is one of the benefits of this community for me. It may be a little unconventional if this is the first or only review of the product, but it's still valuable.

Haha, that's a pretty awesome idea. I imagined myself having a one night stand, and sitting the guy down after and asking him about how to condom felt, all while writing it down in a little notebook. I don't know anyone I am interested in sleeping with though, and I don't have a boyfriend at the moment.

Absolutely! Just make sure you explicitly put that in the review how you tested them. it's like testing a harness on a large female masterbator instead of a real person or something, just explain what you did.

I reviewed a butt plug that I couldn't fit inside of me and 99% of people found it EU.

Besides, saying how the condom fit on a boyfriend is pretty subjective information. Unless you're going to actually give his measurements (which I would feel pretty awkward about doing), it's not necessarily the kind of information that will tell the potential buyer how well it will fit them. I've never reviewed condoms, but as a buyer, I'd want to know what it's made of, what chemicals might be in / on it, how stretchy it is, and so on. A photo of it unfurled would be nice to see as well, as well as a photo of it on the toy.

An excellent point! I hadn't considered that, thank you!
