For my girlfriend, toys relax her and make anal more enjoyable.
Maybe you should look at the toys you have & possibly get something else. What toys throw her off & which one of you is using it? If it is you maybe you aren't giving her enough time to get use to it, to big, not enough lube

A big part of anal is being horny for it. If she is relaxed and ready for it without toys then more power to her. Sometimes toys can just get in the way, distract, and tense things up. That has happened to me at times. That said, I generally relax a lot with a little toy play first.

I'm sort of in the middle.. but more leaning towards no.
While it's good if I haven't had any anal play in a while to use a toy beforehand.. oftentimes it ends up making me clench up MORE and makes anal more uncomfortable :\ Generally with anal sex, I just prefer to get right to it, although I'll always want to take it slow

I think the fact that you're using the toy on yourself helps you to relax, as you can go at your own pace, then let your partner do his thing afterwards.
