Silicone is your winner, here. I have done this on occasion and never experienced anything negative, and I am prone to infection easily.

I would start with one of the smaller silicone plugs...I have both the Super Big End by Doc Johnson and the Super Big Man by Doc Johnson. Both are comfy enough to sleep with.

I don't see why it couldn't be done, but Stormy is right, gotta use silicone, and I'd bring a bottle of lube with you and take it out and reapply every day because it'll probably get really uncomfortable if you don't
