Vibrators and Orgasms; Is there such a thing as too much of a good thing?

Thank you for saying this!!! And I love the way you worded it! I find it very sad and distressing that even here in a place that is supposedly a sex and sex toy positive place that so few people are willing to state vibrator use is not damaging to women! Come on people! At the time of this post only 19 out of 94 votes. Makes me sad!

I think you can get to used to orgasming in the same way making it harder to in other ways.

I think you can, as you can desensitize yourself to a lot of feelings. Humor, for example- browsing too many internet memes for weeks really takes the laugh out of them.

I'd be bumming if it was true, because thats the only way I really can orgasm at the moment, although I do try other things, lol.

I hope not. I can see how it'd be possible, but I'd also imagine you could learn to retrain your body.

Desensitization from vibration is always temporary. If she takes a break from her vibrators for a few weeks, she should be back to normal.

I seem to have gone through that as well. But now I try not to use my toys as much and enjoy the sensations of her mouth and hands on me as opposed to the vibrators.

Yes, I think so, but not permanently. Just take a break from them, and the sensitivity should come back.

I don't think so...I think getting used to a routine can temporarily desensitize you. Switching things up and adding variety is a good way to avoid such things, and like others have suggested, your body changes with age, and your sexual responses and hormones change with it.

I've known women who can't achieve orgasm without the use of vibrators--they just need that particular type of intense, pinpointed stimulation to get there. We're all different and our bodies respond to stimuli differently, but I don't think that using a vibrator can desensitize you anymore than using your fingers to get yourself off can desensitize you. There might be a psychosomatic response that associates sexual pleasure with a specific act or item, but I still think that adding more variety to your sexual vocabulary is the best way to keep from feeling desensitized--and I think that includes keeping the vibrators in the equation once in a while, as well.

For me it kinda depends on the vibrator...when i find a favorite, i try to use it less...because i do find it harder to achieve orgasm after a while with the same toy. it's sad =(

It makes sense that it could happen, but I've never experienced it before.

I'd also like to mention that any meds she may be taking can definitely do it. Not sure if she's on anything, but I thought I'd bring it up because the exact symptoms you are mentioning are what I've suffered on certain meds. Not fun at all. You can message me if you need to.

Yeah, I voted I hope not, but I really don't think you can permanently desensitize. I agree with others that it may be an age thing.

Absolutely, it can play a role. generally speaking however, it's more of a "I've been using this daily all week and today it was hard to orgasm". Whether the clit just becomes numb or simply over sensitized, it can happen.

However, being married for 30 years, I feel it's safe to assume it could be pre-menopause. Keep in mind that this stage can last for many, many years and isn't specific to women over 50, as some would assume.

Check this article and information out. There are things that can help! I'd also recommend a clit cream or other arousal gel/cream.

I wish you both the best!

I think that long repeated exposure can desensitize, variety is good
