To my mind the answer is: There needs to BE sex education in public schools. Abstinence only is a crock of shit and has never worked. Only a well educated youngster has a chance of making responsible decisions. Besides we can't exactly tell our kids that they knew better if the honestly didn't now can we?

The only "sex ed" classes we had in school talked about puberty. They were kind of useful, but never mentioned sex at all. Later on when we had "Health" classes we were warned about the dangers of smoking and drugs. I don't think sex ever came up in any class I took until I got to college and starting taking 17th Century British Poetry!
