I was on the "mini-pill" which doesn't prevent ovulation... and I ovulated, while I was having my period, and got pregnant.
I preferred the shot - that worked for three months at a go and I didn't have any periods. It did make me a bit short-tempered and surly though. But I'm kinda like that anyway.
I got pregnant on the mini pill.....But..to it's defense, I wasn't religious about taking it at the same time every day. There's a smaller window with the mini pill vs a combo pill.
Unfortunately for me I cannot tolerate any bc with estrogen....So I stick with the mini pill. Only had that one oops! (For the record I wouldn't take that oops back for anything!)
I was in the "bc worked too well" camp in that it took me seven months of being off the pill to get pregnant when I wanted to. Now I have the Mirena and nooooo more babies thus far. Hoping it stays that way.
I've been on Depo for years. Obviously not last year since I just had my son, but I was off of it for a whole condom-less ,drunken sex filled year before I even got knocked up. I didn't gain a bunch of weight on it either, but every woman is different.
Pills don't work for me because I don't remember to take them. Tried Nuva Ring but it was just annoying.
The pill worked for me consistently. It was a low dose pill but I'm not sure if its what others are referring to as a mini-pill. Probably not.
My son is a surprise diaphragm baby.
The mini pill is a non estrogen containing pill that is given while a mother is breastfeeding or to women who can't tolerate estrogen. For me it has not given me any of the nasty sexual side effects the other ones have given family members of mine. I have a bit more trouble achieving orgasm and I have to make sure I "feed" my arousal or I lose a bit of drive but it's tolerable.

The mini pill is a progesterone only pill. Low dose pills (which are what are mostly prescribed now) are Estrogen Progesterone combination pills.
The mini-pill is supposed to prevent ovulation and make the uterus "hostile" to implantation, but it has to be taken exactly as directly. NO missing pills, no "late" pills, taken at the same time every day.
The Shot (Depo Provera) works similarly to the mini-pill, it is only progesterone, but has the problem of not being able to stop it if you have side effects. I was on it for about a year, and lost my sex drive, got depressed and gained about 40 lbs or more (on a five foot petite frame.) Not my best form of BC.
I got pregnant several times, while supposedly on my "Safe time" using "natural family planning." Evidently my body ovulates when it wants to, and my mucous and temperature have little to do with it, OR NFP is a bunch of BS. I tend to think the latter. We do better with not worrying about "safe" times (as I used to get pregnant so easily) and we found that withdrawal works best for us.
I have been taking the new yaz pill for the past 4 months, I am not worry free on it. Because I know it's not 100%. There are a bunch of health risks. I am even more worried about clotting due to the pill.. yikes
I have never had a pregnancy scare. That's probably because I use about three different kinds of birth control at the same time. Condoms, birth control pill, and I've used the "day after pill" once.
My birth control worked for several years (although I had a few scares) and then I got pregnant and completely lost all faith in the pill. I really have terrible luck when it comes to birth control though. Condoms almost always break with me and I got pregnant while on the pill. I think I need to find something different with less faults to use.
