I am a giant fan of quality glass work. Not only is glass artistic, it is hygienic, has some heft to it, and can be heated up and cooled down for internal or external sensation play. My Blue head Caterpillar arrived in a velveteen drawstring trademark Phallix pouch. It looked smaller and different than I expected. There were no pinks or gods or yellows running through it, it was clear glass with some milkiness throughout, a cobalt blue head, and cobalt and red lattachino lattices running through the shaft.

Lattachino is a technique developed a long time ago in Italy, where the artist takes individual borosilicate rods of color and bends it in through the borosilicate glass.

Borosilicate glass was introduced to the world by Corning as Pyrex in 1915, but was actually created by a German Scientist named Otto Schott in 1893. Borosilicate is less dense, but actually stronger than regular glass. It will not soften till the temperature reaches 1510 F. When it is annealed (cooked) at extremely high temperatures, its liquid, and its molecules align closer. Although no glass product is unbreakable, an inch thick piece of borosilicate can withstand up to 3,000 pounds of pressure, extreme heat and extreme cold. So if you are worried that your glass dildo or butt plug will break inside you, it won't. You can boil it, toss it in the silverware section of your dishwasher and it will come out unchanged.

Phallix Glass was started in 2002 by Rick Plank, who had years of experience selling art glass in LA. He has over 400 artists working to create gorgeous pieces like the Blue Head Caterpillar. He has rigorous standards of quality. All the products are photoscopically inspected for safety. Though air bubbles and tiny surface flaws are inevitable, they do not compromise the integrity of the piece. Unlike some glass dildos that are molded, these are individually made.

With these dildos, you can use any type of lube you like. It can be silicone based as well. Just be careful because the surface of the Caterpillar is very slick and can get slippery with wet hands, lubes, etc. Borosilicate can break if it falls on a hard surface. But, when it breaks, it's in larger pieces, not tiny shards. Never use a toy that you have chipped.

This is a very slim dildo. The head is graceful and not very bulbous, and the shaft is just a little thinner than the head. Its about 3 and a half inches in diameter, and can be used anally or vaginally. I tried both ways. Of course I sterilized it in between! Vaginally, it was very soothing. I actually fell asleep with it. It is not a G spotter, although its small and thin, it has a nice heft- about 7 ounces. It is slightly longer than a ball point pen by an extra fingernail's length.

If you try it anally, hold on to it carefully, it has no stopper or base. It is straight and doesn't curve, so it may not be what you need for P spotting, but it is an extremely easy and comfortable insertion. The Caterpillar is not harness friendly either.

Still looks like a beautiful confection at a candy shop rather than a pleasure wand. Its small for my tastes, but suits my artistic aesthetic . If you are looking for a unique holiday gift for someone special, this would be perfect.
