Spread ‘Em
This is a fun and versatile spreader. Whether it's used to keep your legs apart or immobilize your hands, the bar is easy to attach to ringed cuffs. The hooks hold the rings securely during play, and the rings are easy to unattach when playtime is over.Published: October 27, 2009
Pros:
Sturdy, made of leather, easy to clip and unclip to rings, multiple uses.
Cons:
May not offer enough spread for some.
Sometimes when we’re playing rough I have a tendency to try to close my legs if I’m not strapped down. This generally annoys my husband, so I thought we’d give the Spartacus Snap Hook Spreader Bar a try.
The bar comes minimally packaged in a plastic bag with a cardboard header at top. It is 24” long, and 2 1/2” wide. The bar is made of two pieces of fine-grained black leather sewn around a flat, somewhat flexible bar. The back of the spreader bar is not entirely flat due to the leather around the interior bar, and it has a gentle curve to it.
The leather is smooth to the touch, and the black stitching seems secure. Although it’s made of leather, the bar didn’t have any kind of scent out of the bag.
Leather is tear resistant, as well as water resistant, and can be cleaned by wiping it with a damp cloth and mild soap. The bar can be reconditioned with leather cleaner if necessary. It can be stored flat in a cabinet, or hung by one of its end hooks.
The top of the bar contains 7 snap clips, which are attached by leather to the inside of the piece. There is one clip on each end, attached by metal rivets so you can be spread the length of the bar. The other five clips are spaced evenly about 4” apart.
This spreader bar works with cuffs or collars that have a metal ring on them. It is easy to snap a ring through the clips, and just as easy to remove the ring. We did not have any trouble with the rings coming unattached from the clips during play.
We first tried this by attaching my ankle cuffs to the outside hooks. While 24 inches may not sound very wide, it was effective at keeping my legs apart. It was an effort to try and get my knees together. No matter which way I was positioned, the bar kept my legs apart. It was not an uncomfortable spread, but it was difficult to change positions! We also found that a leash or other cord with a ring at the end could be attached to the center hook, or interior hooks on each side, to keep my legs in a certain position.
This bar also worked well to keep my hands and arms apart. While this didn’t work so well in front, it definitely did when the bar went across my back. It kept my hands and arms down by my sides, and my husband could also gently pull on the bar to raise my arms back a bit.
Depending on your comfort level, wrist cuffs can be attached to the interior hooks to pull the arms more back behind the body. You can also attach a leash to the center hook, whether the bar is in front or in back of your body.
Another way to use this bar is to attach the center hook to your collar and the end hooks to your cuffs. This will keep your hands up by your head and keep you fairly helpless. Your arms may get a bit tired, though!
This has been a great and versatile addition to our toy arsenal. I may even order a second one so we can use one on the legs and one on the arms at the same time.

This has, somewhat to my surprise, become a highly used product in during our play. We typically use this with ankle cuffs attached, although it's a lot of fun when used attached to wrist cuffs or collar as well.
The bar has held up well, with no bending, tearing, or creasing, and the snap hooks have remained firmly attached. We've had no problems attaching or removing cuffs. The bar also allows us to attach it to tethers in addition to cuffs, which restricts movement even more.
The only drawback this has is it's width of 24", but overall, this has added considerable fun to our bondage play. I would still recommend this one!

Thank you for viewing Spreader with snap hooks review page!

Great review! I've always been curious about these. Thanks for such thorough information.
Thanks!
We're having a lot of fun with this
Great review!
What's the give in the bar like? Is it something that could break with rough play?
Thanks!
We both tried to bend it. It has some give to it, but I think unless you were really trying to snap it in half, it's not going to bend or break. During our play, it didn't flex much at all.
Have never used a spreader bar but are starting to look into them and your review is great.
Thank you!
This has piqued my curiousity quite a bit, sounds like 2 bars and a collar would be perfect
I think it would be, although just 1 and a collar isn't bad either
Thanks for the comment!
This is a great review Sammi!
Thank you, Viktor!
Thank you. This looks really good!
It's fun
Thanks for reading!
This sounds fun! I think I'd like a wider spreader bar, though. My limbs are quite long..
I have an adjustable one, that I like for the wider spread, but this one isn't too bad. That might be a better option - I think the adjustable one opens up to 36".
