Wait, Why Not Metal?

Contributor: TheGreat TheGreat
We use metal cuffs right now, but we are looking into other options.

Metal hurts and I won't allow them to be used on me.

The pain involved, probably. And how sometimes metal fails in that in can lock up and refuse to open.

Metal seems fine. It has different characteristics than other cuffs. It is harder and that comes with unique risks, but everything has a risk. It is just how comfortable you are with the risk. Metal cuffs can damage you more, but I dont see that being an issue with some average play.

Sure, they can hurt... but isn't that the point for some? I think it's preference more than anything.

I've never used metal cuffs, nor have I heard any really pressing reasons not to.

They hurt! I think metal in terms of cuffs would be fun for roleplay, but that's about it!

This mainly.

Additionally, we can't use metal cuffs at all because I suffer from a chronic pain condition that makes them painful to even wear. Also, consider metal allergies.

I don't like cuffs because they are often made cheaply and can tighten on their own. Getting police issue handcuffs is fine, but the cheap ones can be dangerous.

Metal cuffs hurt after long sessions, and while I am a masochist, there is a limit. They also tend to leave marks on my wrists, which I don't like. However, there's nothing intrinsically "wrong" with metal cuffs. It's just a personal preference.

I like to use both leather and metal cuffs, but metal are stiff and do have their downside as others have mentioned.

It's all based on comfort. I will use either, but I prefer other things like rope personally.

It's also a roleplay thing or whatever other reason you want to use metal cuffs. If you're doing a cop scenario, it makes a lot more sense. If you like temperature play, your partner could put them in a freezer before cuffing you or something. There's stuff you can do with metal that you cannot with others. It all depends on preferences.

I've heard one of the safety concerns is that some metal cuffs/collars require a key, and if you lose the key you can't cut through metal in an emergency situation the same way you could with rope or neoprene cuffs. Some folks (myself included) aren't down with wearing something that I couldn't possibly be able to get out of myself if an emergency situation arose.

He doesn't like metal cuffs in general because I tend to pull on my restraints, but He does own a pair of Irish Handcuffs when the mood strikes and He doesn't want me to move around as much...

I/my partner like(s) metal cuffs, we use them and there is no reason you shouldn't.
