Well, if this is your first toy of this sort and you have no experience, I will warn you that the Ruff Doggie Styles paddles are pretty darn firm. I'd start with something a bit softer. Reply

depends what you are looking for? i agree with douglass that if this is your first spanking toy, i'd go for something with a broad, wide surface to even out the pressure of the blow and something without textures like studs or cut outs. if you want a sharper sting, i personally enjoy the impressions paddles by sportsheets since they are not too narrow and have a textured and a smooth side. I really think it depends on the individual, and moreso the receiver than the giver. I LOVE a good swift hand, but sometimes I like a cat o' nine tails for playful spanking. I actually used a leather (lead filled) slapper once which left my ass pretty sore! There's usually no law against trying them on your forearm in the store, or even some light smacking on each other's asses (clothed) in the store. Try some out. I don't mind something that stings, but I do watch for leather items that have sharp edges, because if the giver is off just a hair then that can hurt or even cut my delicate tushie skin, heh!

Wood generally has a good weight on it (like a weapon, an evenly weighted spanking implement works better) and has fewer edges. Reply

Everyone is different. I would recommend talking with your partner first and trying some light experimenting. I'm not sure if you are going to be giving, receiving or both but there are a variety of sensation from slappy to thuddy to name two of them.

I personally liked using the double-heart slapper that is available on Eden. You can vary your sensation depending on your needs or wants.

Your experience and your spankee's experience and preferences are pretty important to this kind of toy. For a good first toy, you definitely want something with more, rather than less, flexibility- leather is probably the best material. The narrow slapper seems like a good option. Reply

It's not tooooo flexible (but not ridiculously hard), has a leather side and a suede side, so it feels softer if you'd like, and worked really well as a first for me and my ex, neither of whom were experienced. It's also cheap enough that you can see if you both like it before you start shelling out more bucks.
