They use cut mascaras wands and lip gloss and applicators especially for using them on many people. they throw them out after each person. they only use the real brushes on people and they sanitize those after every make up use.

Walgreens will also take anything back with a receipt...you can even exchange or get your money back.

I've always been tempted to try having someone show me how to do my makeup

True, but you can't control what people do when no one is looking...and I've seen some people do nasty stuff with the testers in Sephora.

If you go to a department store or place like Sephora, try to at least be able to purchase an item or two...if you are not able to do that, be up front with your artist...you will probably get better service and not be pressured as much.

Im talking about they have a bucket of these and lip gloss and other ones so everyone gets their own and you can throw them away after every use. You can buy packs of them at sallys beauty supply

i have bags of both as a professional make up artist. I never use something that has to be dipped back in the bottle on more than one person to avoid cross contaminating make up and other people. Im incredibly sterile.

Oh, I know...I worked as a retail makeup artist for years. We care...customers left to their own devices do not. I can assure you EVERY tester, unless brand new has been put directly on someone's face, most likely several faces.

I dont believe that, maybe before but Ive seen people at sephora bring out boxes and refill them and throw each stick out and keep garbage cans everywhere to avoid that.

Yep...most of them work on commission or have a sales goal to meet and it's frustrating when someone wastes time making them think they are going to buy a bunch of stuff just to get treated better. I can do a great lesson in 5-7 minutes...the person looks great, learns something and I haven't wasted a ton of time. It is also good to go at slow times....not on a Friday or Saturday night.

It is unavoidable...I have had people use testers right in front of me after being asked not to...I have had customers grab a mascara tube and put it on with the origonal brush...they are fast and don't think. Sephora is not well policed...they might be throwing things away and putting out new wands, but that does not stop a customer from using the same wand twice.

Look for someone who's style you like...makeup artists tend to make their client up in a similar style to their own.

A lot of the sephoras Ive gone to dont keep wands in the testers only the caps to close them. So you have to use the disposable ones. I dunno I have a handful of friends who choose to work make up counters and stuff have talked about how they have a stick up their ass about sanitary stuff like that because a lot people would get pink eye and stuff before things were implemented.

I adore N.Y.C's eyeshadow for Blue eyes, it looks almost silver and goes great with my eye color. The one for green eyes works well, too.

Doesnt matter I guess I personally never test make up out at counters, I stick to the brands I know work for what I do. Usually by trying out a fellow make up artists recommendation or something. So people can freak or not about testing wands doesnt effect me personally. Im as sterile as they get when applying make up on people.
