How do you feel about hearing your neighbors having sex?

I need an "other" option. I live out in the boonies, in a single home with a decent amount of land all around, so unless our bedroom window is open and our neighbor's bedroom window is open and the farmer isn't plowing his field (no lie -- behind our home is a field that is a part of an Amish farm!) with loud equipment, there's no way we're going to hear them, or vice versa. Whew!

But I do recall my husband's college days, when the two of us lived in a first floor efficiency apartment on college campus. We had to be quiet -- not because our neighbors would complain, but because they would cheer us on!

You're missing an "I don't care" option.

The only neighbors we hear regularly doing anything are the people who live below us, who like to blast music at 8 AM on Sunday mornings, and the people who enjoy screaming at each other in the parking lot. I would love to hear people having sex instead.

Oh...shudder. I hadn't thought about this until I read the post and now I'm so deeply disturbed it might be a few days before I can manage anything. My neighbors (on all sides) are all 80+ and, granted, I'm aware that at least at some point in their life they've had sex, it is not something I EVER want to hear.

I LOVE hearing other people have sex, its a sonic form of voyeurism...When my neighbors, or anyone within close proximity, are having sex it fills the atmosphere with this delicious charge! (I like making noise when I can as well.)

I live in a house, so I don't hear much to begin with-- but when I lived in an apartment in Chicago, our neighbors above and next door were crazy... it seemed like someone was always getting busy. It didn't really bother me, but to be fair, we gave as good as we got.

I picked I'm never home, but in reality, our walls are virtually sound proof. The only time he's ever made a racket next door was hammering nails into the wall. My dogs barked so much, he probably went crazy.

I love living at the edge of town. The closest house is about 2 miles down the gravel road.

I don't like the idea. Though with the people I'd be most likely to hear, it might make me feel good to know that they are doing it at all. I kind of worry about them! Their physical health seems to be deteriorating and they aren't very old.

When I lived in an apartment, I had some neighbors above me who helped me to decide that I didn't want to live in an apartment again. They would wake me up with just the bed sounds and then came the voices. They never screamed or anything, but I am a light sleeper. I'd have to leave the room for a while or sleep on the couch. If they were louder, I would consider complaining. Which would be really hard for me to do. I would not want to embarrass them, but I needed sleep!

I have a hard time not making sounds, but I try to not be loud. I really don't feel excited about others hearing that voice and I try to be careful not to disturb anyone with any sounds in general. I think that more people should try to be careful with their volume if they are sexing or talking.

I voted "I'm never home." Right now I'm staying at my parent's house in between apartments, but about a year ago, my boyfriend and I lived in an apartment complex with paper-thin walls. Despite that, we NEVER heard any of our neighbors having sex. We lived in 2 different apartments in the complex- a studio at first, which the neighbor downstairs was EXTREMELY loud, but not during sex. He would blast techno music, slam doors, stomp around, and it seemed like he was always yelling, especially at his girlfriend. He was so loud, I swore he lived on his ceiling (aka, our floor) because we could feel his every move. I would've rather heard him having sex, to be honest. Then we moved into a 1 bedroom apartment in the same complex. Apparently our neighbors had a problem with us having sex, even though we weren't all that loud. The people below us complained to the property manager that they heard "loud intimate noises," which lead to us moving out. In my opinion, if there was such a problem, they should have come to us. We would've figured something out. Jerks!

Our houses are too far apart to hear them. I have accidentally interrupted our neighbors, and best friends on one side of us. Just came to the door in the middle of the day (they have a baby, so that's when the kid is asleep) and she came to the door, all mussed and distracted, and I knew immediately what was happening. I just, "OMG, I'm so sorry for interrupting. Call me later." And she tried to give me the, "No, you weren't interrupting anything...." I just looked at her and said, "Get back to you Man, you both need it." and ran across the little field, back to our house.

My Man always says, "The neighbors must have heard you that time." But, I doubt it. The guy on the other side of us is, like 37 years old and lives with his mother and he's just creepy, he just got a new girlfriend (very young, which is all he seems to get) and I would NEVER EVER want to hear them having sex. I doubt his mother has sex at all, poor thing. There house is just too far to hear anything. Thank God!

The guy behind us on one side (it's a weird set up, as we have an acre, that goes from one road to the road behind us) and have two neighbors on each side) is a biker and we've heard loud parties and Harley Motors, but no sex. The people behind us on the other side, we never hear ANYTHING from.

Whew, I had to read that twice.....

I agree, BB. Some of us have absolutely NO control of our vocal chords while having sex. Hell. I've been known to lose consciousness, it gets so intense. Sound comes out, whether I want it to or not. I don't "exhibit" there's no one to "exhibit" to, because no one can hear us (except our kids and I really don't like them to) it just happens anyway.

The kids have White Noise machines, "to help them sleep." It really helps.

When I lived in the top floor apartment I used to cringe when I could hear the people below me going at it. I just can't take to hearing that sort of stuff ... unless it's in my bedroom and im involved.

If it is a common occurence it gets annoying. I lived in an apartment on the bottom floor (so we had a mini yard) for about 6 months. The people who lived in the unit above us would Be SOOO LOUD having sex during the middle of the day and afternoon, and they would always leave their sliding glass door open. It is so awkward to try and have a BBQ with your PARENTS and GRANDPARENTS and hear them having crazy sex. It was terrible.

I don't live in an apartment or anything like that. I have one neighbor on one side, but he's too far away to hear anything. Plus he lives alone. On the other side is a much older couple. I'm not saying they DON'T have sex, I'm just saying I never hear it because it's too far away if they do. So luckily I don't have that issue. I'm planning to move soon, and the house we are working on getting has an empty house next door, and it's on a corner lot, so I don't even have anyone close to hear anything. Haha.

We live in a single family home, so unless there were some MEGA wild times going on next door, chances are I won't hear it.

Yay, I heard the people above us for the first time. I was starting to feel worried about their sex life as we have been here for a few months and haven't heard a thing

Seriously, I really don't mind. It doesn't bother me and if I was alone and didn't know them I would probably be cheering them on. But the guy is an acquintance (friends with my sister) so it would be weird.

My neighbours are too far away. I guess after awhile it would get pretty tiresome hearing the neighbours at it. Then again, ya could always join in and drown them out...hehehe.

I've never heard neighbors having sex, at least, I don't think so. When my guy and I go to our friends' houses, I mean, sometimes couples go in the other room and hook up but they've always been super quiet. My boyfrend and I can't ever do that, because we're incredibly loud...okay, I am incredibly loud and we don't want to embarrass anyone or anything. When he lived in a dorm, I know his poor roommate heard us banging away at 3 AM every morning.

Wait, I think WE are the noisy neighbors. Crap.

I haven't heard the guy downstairs, and the other 2 occupied apartments have single, quite elderly ladies in them. I'm pretty certain if I heard them I would go into fits of giggles because I'm super-mature like that. /sarcasm

That's what used to happen to my one ex and I with our roommate/random people who might as well have been roommates. We'd get all sorts of clapping and cheering. The walls between the rooms were super-thin.

Oh my god, one time my boyfriend and I spent a weekend in the hotel. And with a few drinks and being very horny, I was kinda loud. It was like 2am and this guy pounded on the wall and we were so scared and he was like "HEY, you. FUCK HER HARDER man. " We were both like WHAAAAA? We burst into giggles.

LOL! My Man and I had a similar experience in my dorm. My Man got pissed off, got out of bed and took off after the guy. The dude ran like crazy, and I got My Man to come back to bed.

I thought it was kind of funny, but he was weird about it.
