I answered about half because I don't feel like actually counting. As a queer studies minor and a major ally in my community, almost everyone I know here in my college town is queer either politically or sexually. Most of my friends from high school and back home dont understand the term queer.

I don't think any of my friends are heterosexual, but I met most of them through the internet in asexual (and of those who are asexual, I think only one or two are exclusively heteroromantic, the others being overwhelmingly panromantic or aromantic) or LGBetc.-focused spaces, so my experience is probably unusual.

Quite a few...nearly half of my friends. I'm all over the map with my circles of friends, but I've always been open and unapologetic about my support for GLBT rights, and it's attracted people who are happy they can feel comfortable around me. My upbringing was conservative, so it was a big deal when I was younger--not as much these days, but a lot of friends from way back when have stuck around.

I wish there had been an 'other' option.
In person, I only interact with 1 queer person-- my hairdresser. I KNOW maybe 5 queer people altogether locally, but I never talk to them or interact with them. Most of the local queer people I know, we became acquaintances through solidarity because we live in such a conservative area, but our interests just don't line up.
However, online I pretty much only have queer friends. It helps me get through the days and not feel like a total weirdo for my orientation... but I consider it separate in this poll because having identified as queer for 9 years, the local voice telling me I am a bad person for my identity tends to drown out my few friends spread across the world that can relate to me. =/

Hm, I probably know a handful of people that ID as queer. Most of my non-straight friends are bi or gay, which, to clear up some apparent confusion in this thread, is NOT the exact same thing as queer. Broadly speaking, queer identity usually implies a connection with sociopolitical activism and purposeful subversion of heteronormativity whereas ID'ing as gay, lesbian, bi, and so forth does not necessarily have those elements (although it might in some cases). Obviously, that's a bit of a generalization since the boundaries of identity categories are invariably fuzzy, but there IS some difference between them.
