Confetti eggs for Easter, anyone?

Contributor: Peggi Peggi
When I was growing up, it was tradition at my aunt and uncles house to make confetti eggs for the kids, and we would all get a dozen, to smash on each other. It made a huge mess, but it was a lot of fun! I've asked friends before if they did this too, and it seems hardly anyone has even heard of it! How about everyone here?

if you want to know how to do it!
Simply take some regular eggs. You punch a small hole in one opening ONLY and drain the eggs. You can use them for whatever you would like, scrambled eggs, baking...just save the shells!

Take confetti that you find at a party store and fill the eggs with the confetti.

Get the paper and paste for paper maché and cover the holes of the eggs with one piece of paper and stick it on with the paste.

Then, once the papers are dried on, your kids (or the big kids of the house!) can smash them on each other in a messy confetti battle! Just make sure that the kids know to not get the face, etc, because it can sting. And, of course make sure if you have pets, it is FULLY cleaned up, even from outside. Egg shells or confetti can be harmful to pets!

I've heard of people doing this with fruity pebbles so when outside, the cleanup is easier and birds can eat the cereal. to make things interesting, you also have eggs with jello in them and some that are plain ol' normal eggs (but dye them all so it's harder to tell!), so when you're playing, you don't know what you're going to be hit with, so it actually gives you a reason to run from people! but with just confetti/fruity pebbles, it would be an awfully pretty mess when everything is done.

When I was in kindergarten, we did this at my birthday party. We threw the eggs at each other like a snowball fight, it was awesome!

how do you get the confetti in if you're just making a small hole?

Confetti isn't very big, and the hole has to be big enough for the egg to drain which is bigger than the confetti needs

My ex-husband was Mexican and they did this. Is it a cultural thing? I'd NEVER heard of it.

HUH...that's very possible, because my aunt was from Mexico and I actually lived close to the border in New Mexico so it would make sense that it could be a cultural thing!

i'm so surprised people havn't heard of this! then again...i live in south texas. lotsa mexicans. xD i love confetti eggs! i hate how they get stuck in my hair, though. i have really wavy/curly hair and it doesn't come out easily. still..easter is one of my favorite holidays because of this.

edit: herp. i totally voted for the wrong thing. i'm still tired. <U< but my comment indeed shows that i do know what they are and enjoy them very much.

Haha I am so glad to see more people who do know about it though! I thought I was just going crazy when I moved to Maryland and no one had any clue what I was talking about!

And you and me both with the curly hair! I always have to brush it out for a while lol

>=3 I can see this becoming an annual Easter tradition in our house, we have a lot of birds around here though so I'll probably try putting in fruity pebbles like marrythenight suggested.
Added bonus, you can have an omelette for breakfast with the insides of the eggs then go chuck the refilled shells at each other. x'D

I think that the next time we do it we're taking her idea too! I love that idea plus the squirrels will love it too here! And maybe the bunnies hehe!

And ooooh yes, the bonus of omelettes, and all kinds of egg-related dishes! It's really nice : )
