What makes you HAPPY this time of year? What makes you sad?

Contributor: Bignuf Bignuf
I enjoy the overall ambiance of family and holiday this time of year. However, right now I am sad seeing that where in past years people around our large business were planning parties and our lounge was always brimming with food, no one has the cash for that kind of thing anymore, and SO, SO many of us are donating to food banks and Toys for Tots, since so many are even FAR, FAR worse off then in prior years.

What do you look around and see that makes you happy.....and sad, at this time of year?

Happy: Best food of the year, parties with family and friends, gifts/shopping

Sad: How inevitable the rest of winter is after the Holiday Season

Happy: Giving my son presents, time off from work (at least this year), the smell of fire places, getting presents, sales, makeup palettes for Christmas with sparkles

Sad: Winter messes with my mood swings and makes me depressed generally. Work is usually really slow around the holiday season so I don't make a lot of money in November or December. After working retail for many years, holiday music and decorations just make me pissy. So I'm sad I can't enjoy things like that.

Winter is one big mixed episode for me. I'm usually depressed through most of it but shopping like crazy while making no money. Not a good time of year. I much prefer fall.

Sad: My mom announced she was divorcing my dad on Christmas about 3 years ago. Maybe thats why I hate christmas now. (downer for the thread right)

Happy: finally cooling down in Florida.

Sad: Mulder's and my FWB/affair was hottest around the holidays back in 2009, and I haven't quite gotten over being dumped ... even though we've both moved on to more stable partners (well, I did, don't know if she's stable or not - he prefers them bipolar). So, I'm a little 'off' whenever I drive by places we hung out and they're decorated for the holidays.

I'm sorry.

The holidays are generally a happy time for me. I associate the holidays with a general feeling of cheer and love.

This year I won't get to visit my partner and his family for the holidays due to financial constraints. I won't be getting to see him until next summer.

Happy: Giving my sons presents and seeing my mom, dad, and mother in law.

Sad: Winter, snow, body aches, and being reminded that the rest of my family does not care at all about me and are really shitty.

My grandparents moved to Florida with my Aunt and now do not speak to anyone, but if they did my hubbies advice on computer things, they will call. When they did call the one time in five years, all my grandfather had to say was "howdy", nothing else. Not how are the kids or anything.
